The Elan Ripstick is often dubbed "The Ultimate Dad Ski," and for good reason. While it may not be specifically designed for it, the Ripstick remains nimble and easy to maneuver, making it a great choice for teaching kids how to navigate greens and blues. When they tire out, it shifts gears, offering stability and aggression for hard charging in big mountain terrain. The Ripstick's balance between maneuverability and carving ability makes it a standout option for a one-ski quiver. Its long effective edge ensures solid carving on groomers, while the deeper rocker in the tips adds versatility. While its softer, more playful build may not be burly enough for heavier or more aggressive skiers seeking a hard-stomping freestyle ski, it still holds its own against models like the Sender Free 110 or Revolt 114.

The Ripstick 96 Black Edition is one of my favorite skis to ride on. I've used these at Loveland along with some of the larger resorts (Beaver Creek, Vail, etc..) and they are awesome wherever you take them. They stay grounded down the groomers and are playful when you want to play around. Highly recommended for any intermediate to advanced skier.

Our Take On The 2027 Elan Ripstick 96 Black Edition:

The Elan Ripstick Black Edition 96 takes the "Goldilocks" of the Ripstick lineup and adds a layer of sophisticated muscle for the aggressive all-mountain charger. For riders who love the versatility of a mid-90s waist but find themselves overpowering softer skis, the extra rigidity in this model provides the stability and "charge" necessary to blast through afternoon chop. The integration of additional carbon strips throughout the woodcore ensures that when you lay the ski over, the edge engagement is instantaneous and chatter-free. It retains that legendary Ripstick agility for tight chutes and mogul lines, yet the stiffer backbone means you won't find the speed limit on the apron. It’s the perfect blend of a lightweight, maneuverable shape and the damp, planted feel usually reserved for much heavier, metal-laminate skis.
