We work with the best manufacturers in the winter sports industry, but occasionally defects do occur. If you think your product has a manufacturing defect please contact us. We'll work with the manufacturer to determine if their warranty covers the damage. Determining if the issue is a manufacturing defect is solely up to the manufacturer, not Powder7. Please note, this process can take several weeks and we will keep you updated as we correspond with the manufacturer.
We offer preorder opportunity on a small amount of select items that are in high demand. We will ship these preorders when items become available to us. Preorder availability dates are based upon manufacturer estimated availability dates. Please understand that this is an estimate and can change based upon manfacturers' availability.
The hybrid binding that changed it all is back with some significant improvements. The Salomon Shift 2 is the latest evolution of the hallmark hybrid binding, with some subtle, but significant updates. Before we dive into the updates, for those new around here, the Salomon Shift 2 is a hybrid downhill/alpine touring binding that "shifts" (get it?) into an uphill or downhill mode. The Hybrid Toe uses a lever to expose tech toes for boots with tech fittings in the toe. Compared to frame bindings, this gives you easier and more efficient uphill travel. When in downhill mode, the binding functions as a fully rated DIN binding, just like a resort binding. That differs from true alpine touring tech bindings, which are more rigid and static in the toe. The Shift is the ultimate companion for someone who skis the resort/backcountry 50/50 with a one-ski quiver, or someone who doesn't mind a few extra grams on their binding in the backcountry, with the added skiability of a downhill binding.
So what's new in the binding for this year? Salomon redesigned the AFD, using the new Power Block. A wedge-like platform secures the AFD in place, to prevent any "drop", so you can adjust the AFD to various heights for different boot types. Salomon increased the height of the climbing aid for more support on steep skin tracks, and they redesigned the brake system to be more user-friendly and prevent the brakes from disengaging. You'll also notice redesigned toe wings for better power transfer, and a larger toe lever to more easily lock into uphill mode. Overall, we're big fans of the upgrades, as they keep the efficient and effective heart and soul of this binding while addressing some pinch points with previous versions.
Click here for ski binding DIN Chart & Calculator. DIN is a scale of the force required for a binding to release. The lower a DIN number, the easier a binding releases; the higher the DIN number, the harder it is for a binding to release.
