The Salomon Stance 96 is a sleeper favorite at the shop here. It doesn't get the same headlines as some staple models, but we think it skis just as well as its competitors, and always leaves staff with a smile on their face after testing. With two sheets of metal, directional rocker, and an exceptionally versatile waist width, the Stance 96 offers a powerful all-mountain ride for stoked intermediates all the way up to seasoned experts. These skis are more directional and more aggressive than Salomon's more playful QST range and are built for skiers who want their skis to have some serious guts. The directional shape, mellow rocker, and modest taper indicate that the Stance 96 loves to ski fast no matter the snow conditions. That said, the Stance 96 stops short of being a full-blown expert ski. The top sheet of metal features strategic cutouts, which Salomon fills with blended carbon and flax, a mainstay in the QST line. For 2023/2024, Salomon made a few tweaks, like adding additional windows in the metal sheets and a more lively, lighter core. This keeps the skis from being bulky clunkers and won't feel quite as punishing if you slip into the backseat. Rest assured, the changes didn't lose any power. The Stance 96 skis like it's on a mission -- to help you destroy everything in your way. Similar skis: Nordica Enforcer 94, Volkl Mantra M6, K2 Mindbender 99 Ti.
