Every binding that I've been on in the 15+ DIN category shares a few things in common: they're durable, confidence-inspiring, and trustworthy where I can focus on my skiing, not on my binding. So, choosing between them sometimes comes down to the little things, which Marker nailed with the Jester.

The step-in process is super easy for a 16-DIN binding, both in terms of amount of pressure needed to get in and how easy the boot aligns in the toe+heel. The construction feels solid, and something about the way the heel snaps onto your boot is exceptionally reassuring. Perhaps best of all, there's a small "anti ice" rail on the toe piece for scraping snow/ice off your boot. Before using it, I always thought it was a bit gimmicky, but once you've used the Jester on a few powder days in sticky snow, it's a luxury you'll never want to give up. The binding performs great, which is always my first requirement, but the Jester has become my go-to choice for powder skis thanks to the little details (they add up when you're trying to step back into your bindings in deep, sticky snow on a weird angle...).

Our Take:

From its very beginning 10 years ago, the Marker Jester has ruled the mountain. The Jester 16 ID continues that heritage, from the highest peaks and steepest lines all the way to the park and pipe. This year´s model was completely updated und tuned, just like the full range of Royal Family bindings. Both the toe and heel are re-designed. Incorporating magnesium sole holders in front and the even lighter magnesium Interpivot 3 heel. This makes for less weight, higher stiffness and improved power transmission. The new Anti Ice Rail is pretty handy to scrap off the snow from the boot sole. All Marker Royal Family bindings feature Power Width Design that make skis perform at their best. Due to the incorporated Sole.ID construction the Jester 16 ID is compatible for both alpine and touring boots.

Features:

  • - 1070g
  • - Anti Ice Rail
  • - Sole.ID
  • - Magnesium Parts
  • - AFD Gliding Plate
  • - Inter Pivot 3 Freeride Heel
  • - Triple Pivot Elite Toe
