During this ski gear nerd's first year at Powder7, when asking for gear recommendations from my wiser peers, one ski came up over and over again for a variety of skier types. It's this one. Launching with a new name for this season, the Volkl Secret 84 is perfect match for stoked entry-level skiers working on their carving, progressing beginners and intermediates who like a solid edge, or older riders with dialed technique but don't need such a stiff/heavy construction. With the same great shape and sidecut technology as the wider Secrets and no metal, the Secret 84 is precise and stable without requiring so much effort to flex into. The 3D Sidecut Radius is perfect for playing with turn shapes, from long sweeping carves on trail to slicing and dicing tight bumps. Glass reinforcements add some stability without too much weight. Not to mention, at 84mm underfoot, the Secret 84 is quick as melting ice in a hot car. If a quick ride and strong carves without such a stiff and heavy platform is what you're looking for, you found it right here. The Volkl Secret 84 is the old Volkl Yumi 84, with a new graphic and name, but the same construction.
