The Volkl Mantra 102 is the middle child in Volkl's impressive trio of all-mountain/freeride skis. A little wider and more off-piste oriented than the all-mountain Manta M6, while not quite as hawkishly big-mountain as the Katana 108, the Volkl Mantra 102 offers freeriders the sweet spot we so often look for. Last year, the Volkl Mantra 102 got some upgrades. Marked by its spider-web appearance, the Tailored Carbon Tips provide stiffness and torsional strength, and a little bit of pop and energy to this otherwise very planted ski. It is hard to top the versatility of a ski with a 102mm waist width, especially if you are someone who balances all-mountain exploration with on-piste charging. The Volkl Mantra 102 excels at both. Titanal frame gives you metal where you need it so you can rail firm snow, grip sketchy hardpack, and blow through chop. Volkl's 3D radius sidecut makes the ski intuitive to turn at all speeds and turn shapes. We recommend the Mantra 102 for athletic, aspirational intermediates through experts who demand a strong ski that they can put through the wringer. This ski lives up to its legendary name while also forging a hard-charging identity of its own. Similar skis: Stockli Stormrider 102, Salomon Stance 102, Nordica Enforcer 100.
