Volkl Skis 2023 Preview

Volkl Skis 2023: The First Look Working on the Right Moves. Per usual, the new Volkl skis look sleek...and fast. With a $4.5 million investment in product to mark its 100-year anniversary, Volkl holds strong in the fast lane for the 2022-23 ski season. Rather than splashy new models or gimmicks, the new line highlights a calm and steady commitment to quality. Known for introducing intentional design updates that matter on snow (rather than falling into the "frills" category), Volkl's biggest change for the new season is the expansion of Tailored Carbon Tips. First seen in ... Continue Reading

2022 Volkl Mantra 102 Review

The Volkl Mantra 102: A bigger badder M6? Note: the 2021-2022 Volkl Mantra features new art, but it is the same ski structurally as the previous two versions (2019-2020, 2020-2021). This review was originally published in April 2019. Volkl's redesigned Mantra for 2018-2019, the M5, quickly became one of the best all-mountain skis of the year. For 2020, they expanded the line further, introducing a wider option built to match the narrower (and also redesigned) Kendo: the Volkl Mantra 102. (Editor's note: for 2022, the M5 is replaced by the M6. Because those two skis are very similar, our ... Continue Reading

Our Take On The 2023 Volkl Mantra 102:

The Volkl Mantra 102 is the middle child in Volkl's impressive trio of all-mountain/freeride skis. Last year, Volkl updated their ever popular Mantra M6 with "tailored carbon tips" and "tailored titanal," and that technology gets expanded to the Mantra 102 this year. Marked by its spider-web appearance, these carbon tips tailor the stiffness and torsional strength of every model to seamlessly match the terrain and skiing style it’s built for. The Mantra 102 craves mixed snow and off-piste terrain more so than the narrower M6, but it stops short of the big-mountain hawkishness you get in the Katana 108. It is hard to top the versatility of a ski with a 102mm waist width, especially if you are someone who balances all-mountain exploration with on-piste charging. The Mantra 102 excels at both. Titanal frame gives you metal where you need it so you can rail firm snow, grip sketchy hardpack, and blow through chop. Volkl's 3D radius sidecut makes the ski intuitive to turn at all speeds and turn shapes. We recommend the Mantra 102 for athletic, aspirational intermediates through experts who demand a strong ski that they can put through the wringer. This ski lives up to its legendary name while also forging a hard-charging identity of its own. Similar skis: Stockli Stormrider 102, Salomon Stance 102, Nordica Enforcer 100.
