The winter of 2023/2024 brings an all-new design concept from the big-brained ski nerds at Utah-based DPS—and if you like your big mountain skis to be light, damp, and playful, then you're in luck. The kaizen 105 sheds some weight from its predecessor, the Pagoda 106, coming in around 1800g in the 179cm length. Under the hood, however, DPS has dialed up the stability with an innovative ash/poplar split core and premium carbon fiber, all held together by a new anti-vibration adhesive. It's a more directional shape than the kaizen 100 or 112, with a bit less rocker and a long turn radius. At the back, a subtle pintail gets you out of your turns quick enough for nimble maneuvering in tight spaces like bumps and trees. Add it all up and you've got a proper charger, that's somehow still lighter and smoother than anything else on the mountain. Exactly what you'd expect from the latest DPS innovation.
When it comes to premium carbon skis and pioneering shapes, the engineers at DPS are relentless tinkerers. Their classic, original Pure construction evolved into the Alchemist, which evolved into the Pagoda, which evolved into this: the all-new Kaizen. Blending the light-but-damp carbon fiber technology pioneered in their touring skis, with the stable, vibration-absorbing properties of an ash and poplar wood, the Kaizen offers the best suspension of any ski DPS has ever built. Precise, accessible, and more freeride-playful than anybody would expect, the Kaizen is DPS's next step in their pursuit of perfection.
