The Best Backcountry Ski Gear of 2019

It sounds crazy. Hiking uphill for a few hours to take one run that lasts all of 10 minutes. "Forget that," bystanders say. "I'll stick to the chairlift." We understand the sentiment. But many of us here at Powder7 subscribe to this crazy-talk—and the backcountry skiing lifestyle. Why? There's just something addictive about earning your turns. 2019 Atomic Backland 95 Description:

The obvious choice for skiers who like to go up and like to get down. A light weight touring ski from Atomic in a new width that will have you smiling ear to ear the whole day. The Ultra Light Woodcore makes this ski incredibly light for the uphill, but super stable for the descent. 95mm underfoot gives you the float you need in the powder, but is a versatile enough that you can take it everyday, no matter the condition. The Alpine Touring Tip 2.0 is slim so it can cut through chop and crud and also features a cut out notch so you can quickly and easily attach your skins. The Ultra Light Woodcore in combination with the Carbon Backbone is Atomic's answer to a lightweight ski that won't sacrifice performance. A core made from strong beech and poplar wood is ideal for the backcountry plus strings of carbon running the length of the ski adds agility and phenomenal edge hold without the extra weight that traditional metal would add. So instead of focusing on the weight below, you can focus on the view above with the Backland 95.
