I don't normally ski in this size range, but when I do, I'd like to be on a Stockli Nela 80. The narrowest of the women's all-mountain collection from Stockli, the Nela 80 is best suited for firm snow conditions and on-trail skiing. But with a modern all-mountain shape, this ski gets much more action off-trail than you might expect. I saw a woman ski 8 inches of fresh snow on these skis with style. A splash of tip rocker and splay up front get the skis on top of the snow quickly and easily, preventing tip dive and drowning in the freshies. Just a hair of a tail rocker helps you release the tails in tight terrain. This ski feels a lot more intuitive and fun to ski than other skis in the 80mm range, just by feeling a lot less locked into your turns You can initiate the next turn naturally, and link turns together more smoothly with less precision than something with less rocker and a beefier construction. That said, it's still a Stockli. This ski is supremely damp and smooth riding when it comes to hard snow conditions, and if you have the technique and legs to ski it hard, she'll let you push the speed limit. This ski runs pretty true to size, but don't be afraid to go with a longer length if you're an advanced or expert skier looking to add a versatile narrow ski to your quiver.
