There's this phenomenon that happens with running shoes and skis (and probably other things, too, but I've only ever bought running shoes and skis): you find a model that's perfect for you, and they immediately stop making it. Which is exactly what happened to the K2 Shreditor 102. That thing was noodle-soft, crazy-rockered, and an absolute riot to play around on through bumps and trees. And then it didn't exist anymore. I'm telling you this now, friend, so that you might feel within yourself the joy that overthrew me when I took my first few laps on the 2021 Reckoner 102 at Winter Park. It's a grown up Shreditor 102: a bit less noodly, a bit less rockered, but just as playful and up for anything. You can smear your way in and out of turns effortlessly on the Reckoner 102, but still lay it on edge when it's time to get serious. For skiers, like myself, who spend most of their time playing around in trees and bumps and chopped up bowls and have the soul of a poet, this is a right and proper ski. A ski for people who like fun.

One of the strongest personalities in the ski industry, the K2 Reckoner 102 knows exactly who they are and own it. Think of it this way. So many skis in the industry today try to do everything and be super versatile. Call it the tireless pursuit of the one-ski-quiver or delusions of grandeur. Either way, many of those skis end up not being the best at any one style of skiing. Conversely, the Reckoner 102 wants to be the most playful all-mountain ski you ride this year. With a progressive mount point, soft flex in the tips and tails, and deep rocker lines, the Reckoner 102 pivots, smears, and butters with the best. K2's Carbon Spectral Braid gives you a solid platform underfoot for carving and ripping bumps, but it in no way makes the skis feel rigid or bulky. On the contrary, the Reckoner 102 is surprisingly smooth in any type of soft snow. This is a ski that forms its identity around having a good time, all across the mountain. So if you are the type of fun-loving human who airs off everything, lives for slush bumps, or just wants a ski that will not beat you up if you get in the backseat or ski it slow, you have found your match.
