This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

Our neighbors over in Golden, Colorado—Icelantic—never fail to impress. They're truly doing something special for the ski industry. Known for their playful, powder-loving, park-friendly skis, the Nomad continues to stand out as a true do-it-all option.

While it features carbon stringers for added stability at speed, the poplar wood core keeps it light, nimble, and energetic. Sure, it can carve, but that's not where this ski shines. Compared to something like the Salomon QST 100—which shares a similar soft and playful personality—the QST has a bit more edge grip and leans more into the big mountain category.

And yes, we all know Icelantic tops the charts for top sheets every year... but this one? This one deserves platinum.

So, who’s it for?
The Nomad is perfect for the skier who dabbles in or is drawn to the park, loves treating the whole mountain like a playground, hits every side hit in sight, and enjoys being in the air. If you're looking for a mid-width ski with float, pop, and all-mountain versatility, this one's calling your name.

Well they did it. Icelantic finally put carbon in the Nomad lineup. As a huge fan of the previous generation of Nomads, the Nomad 100 is everything I hoped it would be and more. Keeping the same ultra-poppy poplar wood core and Tri-ax Fiberglass as the old Nomad 95, this ski carves, butters, and rides switch just as well as it ever has. Now at 100mm underfoot, with a new Rubber Foil laminate and Carbon Stringers, it floats better, it takes off and lands jumps better, and it somehow feels even more playful. When it comes to a fun ski with some “giddyup”, take a look at mounting up the new Nomad 100, and ski off into the sunset.

Our Take:

Like the cowboy adventures into the open frontier of the West with bank robberies and cattle wrangling on the mind, the all-new Nomad 100 pioneers a new frontier for Icelantic. After several years of no updates to their legendary freeride Nomad collection, the 2024-2025 season brings a wild new flavor to the series. The Icelantic Nomad 100 is the most playful and fun-loving of the bunch, with a platform purpose-built for all the terrain you can encounter on the mountain. Icelantic wanted to lean into the freeride part of freeride with this updated model. They focused on the tips and tails, changing the construction to lower the swing weight and changing the shape to be more symmetrical. The front and back of the ski are much easier to swing around, whether you're skiing bumps or tight trees, finding air off of side hits, or just looking for an intuitive and playful ride. Icelantic also added double the camber height compared to the old model and four carbon stringers to add energy and pop when you flex into the ski. Overall, the ski is easier and more intuitive to flick around, energetic, and just plain fun to ski. We think it appeals to loads of skiers, from stoked intermediates looking for a sweet ski to do it all, to experienced riders who like a fun ski. Whether you're channeling the criminal nature of Butch Cassidy or the gunslinging justice of Wyatt Earp, the Nomad 100 encapsulates the free spirit of the West with every turn, pow or not.
