The Ripstick is playful and speedy, and I felt it really got my form in better shape as someone who tends to lean back instead of forward. I felt these skis at the 188 cm length were the perfect combination of playful and responsive. So often when helping folks shop for all-mountain skis, they want something that can do it all. If there's pow, you can ski it. If it hasn't snowed in three weeks, you can ski it. If the pow's been skied and you got stuck in traffic on the way up, you can ski it. But, usually, the skis that plow through chunder and carve hard on firm snow are loaded up with metal and require a good amount of effort to be skied. And frankly, between you and me, some of us don't want to try that hard all the time. That's where the Elan Ripstick 96 comes in.
The Elan Ripstick 96 is an all-mountain ski that balances performance with skiability. The lightweight construction is flickable and easy to stay on top of, while the carbon-focused construction adds stability where you need it, without bulking up the ski too much. Another distinction on the Ripstick over comparable all-mountain skis is the profile. It's more directional than your more playful focused skis, with a flatter tail for increased edge hold. But, Elan does you one better with their Amphibio profile. A dedicated left and right ski give you more rocker on your outside edge and an elongated inside edge, which gives you that balance of maneuverability and stability the Ripstick is so world-renowned for. At the 96mm waist width, we think the unique profile works particularly well here, given you'll likely be skiing a mix of trails, bumps, trees, and mixed snow off-trail. We recommend the Elan Ripstick 96 to a wide range of skiers—from seasoned experts who prioritize a flickable ski that they can get on top of easily, but has a more traditional shape, to intermediates looking to progress with a confidence-inspiring ride.Features:
