For 2020-21, Atomic adds a brand new ski to the mens Backland alpine touring collection: the Backland 100. Specifically, Atomic classifies this new Backland as a “freeride touring ski,” alongside the wider Backland 107 and 117. Compared to those powder-seekers, the Backland 100 features a new, more directional profile with longer and more predictable camber. Out of these three, those updates make the 100 the most versatile ski in the line, striking a nice balance between the ski-mountaineering flavor of the narrower Backland 95 and the freeride/powder traits of its big brothers. Its an ideal quiver-of-one touring ski for someone who will spend as much time hunting spring corn as midwinter powder. Similar skis: Black Crows Navis Freebird, Volkl V Werks Mantra.
