This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

As someone who skis a lot of freestyle-oriented skis (Line SFB, Faction Mana, Volkl Revolt, etc.), I love how playful and maneuverable they are, but I have been on the hunt for something that's more stable. The Armada ARV 106 has filled that void perfectly. It's not as buttery/flexbile as a lot of skis in this category - or even the older versions of this same ski for that matter (pre-2021) - but it offers a pretty impressive level of dampness, stability, and support for skiing aggressively. Not to mention, it's super maneuverable and easy to ski for how stable it is.

It has the slash-and-play feel of a freestyle ski, just in a much heavier, stiffer-flexing package. That makes the ARV 106 quite a bit more challenging to butter, press, and spin on than something like a Line Sir Francis Bacon, but it's also WAY more confidence-inspiring when I'm skiing chop/variable or attempting (with varying success) to stomp airs. Overall, it's been a great ski for a "playful-charger" approach to the mountain, with a bit more emphasis on the playful. At 6'1" and 185lbs, the 188cm is perfect as an everyday driver for me in Colorado.

The ARV 106 is deceiving at first flex. It feels like a soft ski that would be most comfortable at mellow speeds lapping the park. There is more to this skis story, and I found out that it is much more of an all-mountain missile then it would lead it's rider think. The skis soft flex in the tips and tails help it track over uneven terrain, yet the supportive mid-section keeps it tracking a smooth line. It has a playful personality that loves to pop off stumps and moguls, and carves forward and switch with a sprightly and encouraging demeanor. A great one ski quiver for a new school skier that likes to have fun with the mountain, but not just in the terrain park.

Our Take:

You'll find it in ski collector's closets and sheds, just as much as you'll find them in the quivers of freeride comp kids. The Armada ARV 106 is a classic freeride ski that's won the hearts and minds of skiers everywhere. The twin-tip shape works well for freestyle skiers who want a bigger ski for soft snow days, just as well as it does for skiers who like a manuverable and intuitive big-mountain ski. For 24/25, Armada softened the tip of the ski to help give you a little more progression through the front half of the ski. That gives you some more suspension when pushing through choppy snow and makes turn initiation more intuitive. They kept the tail a touch stiffer, to help you hold through longer turns or support big landings. Most importantly, they replaced a traditional sidewall with their "w3dgewall" design. By creating a wedge shape that jams into the core of the ski, the ski is more torsionally rigid underfoot and more durable. Bash a rock early season? No sweat. On snow, we think the w3dgewall helps this ski carve a whole lot harder. You're maybe not buying this ski for World Cup edge angles, but it sure makes getting back to the lift a whole lot more fun. But the bottom line? The Armada ARV 106 is the epitome of drfity and smear-y. A little stiffer than other skis with this shape, but not so stiff it feels like a plank, the ARV 106 is perfect for playful chargers who like a little more stout in their ski.
