This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

One of the things that really gets me going when discussing the ins and outs of ski construction with my coworkers is that so many ski companies tend to make their women's skis softer, lighter, and with less metal than the men's versions. I mean, not to pat myself on the back here or anything, but I tend to consider myself just as aggressive and fast and hard charging of a skier as all the men here in the shop, so why should my ski be less aggressive than theirs? It's safe to say I've complained about this dilemma at least once a day for the past few years (all of my coworkers can corroborate this), until the Volkl Secret 92 came onto the scene. A Titanal frame, just like in the Mantra M5. The same core, with no modifications, as the Mantra M5. The same 3D turn radius, as in the Mantra M5. Like a moth to flame, I gravitated towards this ski and all the possibilities that came with it. Then, once I took it out for a test run (or 20), I was finally happy. Here is a ski that can handle the speed I push it to. Here is a ski that doesn't shy away from less than ideal conditions, and practically begs you to open it up when you take it into a bowl. Not only that, but the bumps felt like a breeze, and tree skiing felt like flying. "Is this too good to be true?" I asked myself as I got into the lift line again and again, out of breath from the top to bottom laps. It carves, it floats, and it cuts through crud like it's a soft brie wedge. I guess I'll have to find something new to complain about for the foreseeable future, because the Volkl Secret 92 took the words right out of my mouth.

Our Take On The 2021 Volkl Secret 92:

Introduced in 2018, the Secret performed so well during its first season that Volkl decided to add a wider version to the lineup, the 102, for 2019-2020. In 2021, both of these rad skis come back with just a topsheet change. And they've both become standard-bearers. In the all-mountain ski category, the Secret 92 wants to be your one-ski-quiver no matter where you live and play. With strategically placed metal framing lightweight tips and tails, the Secret loves to ski fast. Strong female skiers who love to carve will be blown away. These skis tear up groomers like the race skis you left in high school, but unlike those planks, they are fun too! So instead of being pigeon-holed into one type of run, with the Secret 92, you can navigate moguls, explore trees, and dip into back bowls without being punished for wanting to ski slower with more finesse. While the narrower version will not float powder quite as well as its bigger sister, it takes home the ultimate prize for versatility. Any advanced to expert female skier should take a hard look at these skis, along with intermediates who are all-in on skiing and looking to progress quickly. Volkl wants you to be its secret keeper.
