Instead of a traditional all-mountain, classic touring shape, the Rossignol Escaper 97 Nano gets more rocker and a progressive sidecut. This makes them a little more similar to a freeride shape and style, than a flatter tail and more directional shape. This gives you greater maneuverability and more floatation in the softer stuff (which is why you were going uphill in the first place, right?). Despite a more playful shape, these still feature ultra-thin, nano titianal and basalt layers to help smooth the ride out and provide stability in case you happen to find yourself in more variable snow (which, despite our best efforts, we wind up finding in the backcountry anyway). The Escaper 97 Nano will be particularly versatile for soft snow or deeper snowpacks, while the 87 Nano will excel in tight spots and more icy snow conditions. Hitting an extraordinary light weight of ~1300 grams per ski, you can escape to even farther reaches of the backcountry, without feeling a weight penalty.
