This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

    Powder7 Staff Pick Tyler J
    By: Tyler J
This is the surfiest, most playful charging ski you will ever get on. If you want to attack the fall line while still making the mountain into a playground, this is the ski to be on. With it's hybrid core construction it is hyper damp and stable and eats vibrations for breakfast. When skiing mixed conditions (wind crust, chopped powder, ice, i.e. realistic conditions), it has the power and stability to punch through everything.

An anecdote, if you'll allow: I was off in the wonderous world of a winter park powder day, blasting through one of the bowls on my way to achieving terminal velocity. The only problem: I was on my Bent 120 instead of my M-Free 118. On my Bent (incidentally another incredible ski and a great foil to the M-Free if you have the room in your quiver for two powder skis) I found myself skipping and bouncing from the top of one powder pile to another, barely able to stay in control as I rocketed down the hill. In that situation, the M-Free shines: it has the stability and dampness to kill the bad vibrations received from rocketing across broken snow and with its playful core, construction, and mount point (mine are mounted at +2 from factory rec), it is still fun and easy to bust lose, catch some air and get it sideways.

I will say, as result of the weight and general burliness of this ski, it is not to be considered entry level. It needs a stiff boot and a strong technique to really shine, but if you have those things, there are no limits to where this ski may take you.

Our Take On The 2025 Dynastar M Free 118:

The Dynastar M-Free 118 is the widest and most powder-happy ski in the M collection. And ultimately, that is a good thing. When they released the Proto, Dynastar said that it "blends a fall line seeking missile with playful freeride versatility for whatever terrain is in front of you." Having skied the M-Free 118, our word-nerd ski writer cannot really improve on that. These powder skis are unique in their ability to cater to both playful skiers and big-mountain chargers. They prove turny enough for more conservative skiers who prefer powder Nirvana at slower speeds and strong enough for freeriders who straightline. That all-powder, all-the-time versatility will make you want to spend all your money on cat and heli trips. We apologize in advance. Similar skis: Salomon Blank, Moment Wildcat, ON3P Woodsman 118.
