Escape to the Backland
Atomic is getting rural in its 2021 line, unveiling the first alpine touring binding with a self-adjusting climbing bar along with new and refined Backland models. Oh, and they also revamped their collection of Hawx touring boots and added a 10-DIN Shift binding. It would seem the Atomic crew wants to help you earn your turns…
On top of all that attention to touring detail, they still found time to update the men’s and women’s Vantage skis, making them more versatile and user-friendly in a wider range of snow conditions, speeds, and turn shapes.

What’s New
Atomic refined the Vantage Ti skis, with thinner titanal and more progressive flex patterns (including softer shovels), making them even more versatile and smoother skis at all speeds. The Vantage C skis were similarly edited and now use softer glass.
New skis in the Backland touring series: the men’s Backland 100 and women’s 98. They are straighter with a more directional profile than other Backland skis and feature longer, more predictable camber.
The Backland 117 is updated with a new tail and a new rocker profile plus carbon and poplar in the build. That ski and the Backland 100 and Backland 107 fit as Atomic’s freeride-oriented adventure touring line. The corresponding skis on the women’s side are the 98 and 107. The narrower Backland skis (95, 85) profile as ski-mountaineering options for speed or big-mileage skiers.
The Shift binding is offered by Atomic in a 4-10 DIN version (white/black) and a black/gold 13 DIN version.
New Autoclimb touring binding is the first AT option with a self-adjusting climbing bar. Says our rep: “It gives you the right height adjustment, and it’s always there in the right place.”
Other Highlights
The Hawx series of touring/hybrid boots feature big changes, including locking buckles and new ultra-customizable liners.
The Bent Chetlers get new topsheets. Atomic will make 1,000 Grateful Dead limited edition versions of the Bent Chetler 100.
