This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

The 2026 QST 106 bring a damper, more performative, all mountain machine. Bringing the basalt stringers from the very tip tip to tail in addition to a horse shoe shape cork layer allows for more effective shock absorption. While the QST's have notoriously been known for their maneuverability and playfulness, this new build stuck to it's roots but with more aggression for those of you who want to charge a little harder. This is a must get on for those all mountain skiers who search for the more fun and technical terrain but also love a good day of corduroy.

Being one of the fan favorites of the QST lineup, the 2023 model of the QST 106 is one burly, maneuverable, stomping mid-width freestyle ski. Those of you who are looking for a one quiver ski that can do it all (mostly), the 106 would be a great option. The QST lineup have notoriously struggled with carving due to its big turning radius and tendency to chatter at speed while on groomers. If you are an off piste skier and that is all you like, that is what the QST was made for.

If I had one word (ok, a few words), to describe the new QST 106's, they'd be intuitive, reliable, and a great balance of playful and powerful. This ski has the capability to pivot easily in trees and bumps, while still remaining stable enough to rip over chopped up, cruddy snow towards the end of the day. I am convinced that with those colorful bases, the skis want you to spend time in the air (to show them off, of course), and have a great landing platform. I'd recommend sizing up a bit with them, as they have a solid dose of rocker (I'm 5'7",140 lbs and liked skiing them better in the 173cm size). Overall, the new QST has something for everyone, and really nails the balance of being playful, but still damp and carvable.

Our Take:

It's a household name and one of the most popular freeride skis over the last few seasons. And for good reason. The Salomon QST 106 remains one of the most versatile skis in the mid-fat category. It's perfectly tuned for transitioning between soft snow and hard snow conditions, from tight terrain to open bowls and long turns. The 2026 QST 106 features a few updates to refine and dial up the performance. All without changing the bones of this ski that is so beloved by core skiers everywhere. A new cork injection technique helps increase the dampening superpowers of the cork insert, along with a new basalt and fiberglass layup that increases smooth riding and suspension when you're tackling harsh snow. The biggest change in shape comes from the tail, with a higher rocker line, but tweaked taper and contact points to help you finish a turn with more power. So, the Spark Notes? The new QST 106 is stronger, smoother, and frankly rips a carve like I never thought a QST 106 could. But it's still the fluid, manuverable, and fun-loving pal you love. It's as if they've been hitting the gym a little more often and can now beat you in an arm wrestling match. We love the QST 106 for advanced intermediates buying their first set of wider skis, all the way to experts who value a little flow in their skis (rather than committing to a hard-charging fall line 24/7).
