By: Annabelle MLet me be honest and straight to the point, this ski is not for everyone, and some days, I’m not even sure it’s the ski for me. But if you’re looking for a ski that is responsive, charges, and gives everything you put into it and more, this is the ski for you. If you’ve talked to any of us here at the shop, you know that there’s no perfect one-ski quiver. In every condition where a ski excels, there is also a condition where it compromises. For my all-mountain ski, I prioritize stability on groomers and crud-busting power, both of which these have. They are one of the few 100+ underfoot skis available to women with a flatter tail and metal reinforcement. The longer effective edge makes it incredibly fun to carve on and provides a lot of energy in bumps, popping you from edge to edge. It loves tight, quick turns, but it takes some effort to make them. When my form is perfect, so is this ski.
The weight of the ski and the stiff, flat tail does require a forward stance and a lot of weighting and unweighting of the tails, especially in moguls. It’s a ski that I have to think about when skiing, but that’s exactly what I was looking for. The Rallybird empowers me to be a better skier. And in soft chop and crud, I’ve never had more fun on a ski. I didn’t know you could carve 3 inches of snow, but wow, it’s a darn good time
I’m 5’7”, 130 lbs, an advanced skier, and generally like a longer ski, so I’ve been rocking the 171cm. If you want the stability with a little added maneuverability, this is a ski you could likely ski a little shorter.Our Take:
Perhaps one of the more aggressive women’s specific skis out there, the Rallybird 104 Ti is built to handle any conditions you throw at it. A slightly flatter tail and more directional shape improves edge grip and stability, especially at higher speeds or on that less-than-perfect snow. Plenty of metal underfoot and a carbon alloy matrix provides a smoother ride than the lighterweight, more forgiving Rallybird 102. You might ask, well, what is women’s specific about this? Aside from the more attractive topsheet and shorter lengths, the only difference is a lightweight paulownia vs. poplar wood. All the same metal, carbon, and Damp Tech as the boy’s version, means you can charge down that wind buffed, steep slope, just as fast.
