Yes friends, you read that right. Nordica has brought back the Enforcer! Some changes have been made, but one thing for certain remains: The Enforcer is a hardcore ski designed by hardcore skiers. A true skiers’ ski. I for one, welcomed the return of its’ tried and true reliability and immediately noticed the tweaks which I think will make this ski a bit more accessible to the aspiring all mountain ripper.
All the skis in the 2016 Nordica freeski line boast a fresh new look. The graphics have been updated of course, but the topsheet material has also changed. Rejuvenating the textured, wood-grain-like materials from the older park skis in Nordica’s line, offers more durability and snow shedding properties. What I loved most about this change was the simple fact that topsheet damage seems to peel rather than chip. We’d all like to keep our skis looking new and this can help a bit with that cause.
Borrowing some of the tip design from their popular Patron ski, the new Enforcer’s tip profile will look very familiar. Featuring Nordica’s Hammerhead Nose and Versatile Edge Contact combined with award winning All Mountain Enforcer specific CamROCK! the contact point of the tip is 25% back and the tail is 5% from a traditional cambered ski. This aids the underfoot camber providing increased flotation, ease of turn and maneuverability. The Enforcer also brings back the Energy 2 Titanium construction with 2 sheets of titanium embedded in the topsheet.
What does this all mean? Let me tell you what I thought of the ski. I tested the 185cm length which offers a 18.5 meter turning radius. It has a 100mm waist with a 134mm tip and 124mm tail. My initial thoughts were to how quickly this fairly beefy ski turns. Rock it from edge to edge as fast as you want or blast it straight down a groomer. This ski can handle either. I was a bit worried about the 2 sheets of metal when I entered the bumps and trees, but liveliness and maneuverability was shocking. I thought the tail stiffness was perfect for an all mountain ski. Popping off rollers was a blast and slamming them through the bumps didn’t require much extra energy as metal skis tend to do. The Enforcer felt most at home in the skied off back bowls of Vail. Put them on edge and the 6 inches of crud will feel like corduroy, just remember to lock in that turn and the Enforcer will do the rest.
