Rossignol Sender Free 100 — from $499
Closeout graphic! With countless freeride skiers falling in love with the wider Sender Free skis over the last few seasons, it was no surprise when we heard that Rossignol planned to launch a Sender Free 100. But this isn’t your garden variety 100mm freestyle ski. This ski has some “grr” to it. Metal underfoot along with a relatively stiff flex pattern through the midarea of the ski gives you some beef to power through chop, crud, and refrozen mashed potatoes. Despite large rocker and tip and tail splay, the tail shape is more directional. That means when the skis on edge, you’ll find predictable edge hold and a penchant for taking long, fast turns. But when in tight terrain, a pilot with some pressure up front will be able to get the ski to pivot and sideways. If you’re someone who wants plenty of ski beneath you when dealing with variable conditions or speed, and falls into that “playful charger” category, this is the all-mountain ski that can keep up with you.
Armada ARV 94 (Madsteez)— from $479
Culty favorite. The Armada ARV 94 knows how you like to ski. You know to avoid rocks, obstacles, and not drop skis in the gravel parking lot. But, life happens. All it takes is one day of skiing along until a snow snake comes out and snatches you up. Armada wanted to give you an ARV that skis like the playful and quick ride you love, with the added durability of something much burlier. W3dgewall sidewall tech bonds the mold and sidewall better together, creating a stronger sidewall to protect against compressions and breaks. After Armada whipped up the w3dgewall, they realized the construction provides a stronger edge grip, even at lighter weights. So they swapped in for a lightweight Caruba core that flexes softer than previous ARVs and feels lighter in the air. A lower swing weight means fresher legs throughout the day and easier spins. Softer flexes mean easier presses and butters, from the terrain park to the lift line. The ARV 94 hand flexes stiffer than the ARV 100, so if you’re looking for more stability for skiing more firm snow or icy pipe lines, the ARV 94 is your pal.
Atomic Maven 93 C — from $459
Staff top pick. For women navigating the crowded category of women’s all-mountain skis, put the Atomic Maven 93 C towards the top of the list. While the men’s version, the Maverick 95 Ti, features two sheets of thin metal in the build, the Maven serves up a slightly softer flex pattern and reduced weight. Carbon stringers add power and energy instead. If you are an aggressive skier who is now rolling her eyes, hold that roll. The Maven 93 C is no noodle, with a stiffer flex than other popular women’s skis. That carbon just gives the Maven extra energy, especially compared to the Maverick. On groomers, it provides solid edge grip and stability. In bumps, it’s nimble and reliable. And off-piste or in mixed snow or powder, it makes every turn you need it to make. It’s even a blast to launch off of little rollers, and easy to find energy from turn to turn. In a ski that you take everywhere, you want smooth and intuitive performance, and that’s exactly what the Maven 93 C offers. Not an aggressive skier? Don’t worry.
