Ski People: Winter Hacks, Jerry Spring Break, and the Best Ski Ever

Get to know our owner, Jordan, a collegiate runner and former Denver cop who left Massachusetts for the high peaks of the Rockies over a decade ago—and then decided to start slinging ski gear out of his garage. Read on for a few of Jordan’s favorite things…

Jordan’s Winter Hack:  Ski the slow chairlift. The lift may be slow-going, but it also limits skier traffic. That means the snow stays deep and untracked.

Album of the Season:  Weezer’s Teal Album. It’s all covers, and it’s all worth a listen.

Most Recent Gear Purchase:  I’ve been loving my lightweight skiing outfit, the Patagonia Descensionist Jacket and Pants. They’re shockingly durable, storm-proof, and light enough to tour in.

Jerry-est Spring Break:  One abbreviated word— Breck.

Ski of the Year:  I’ll go with a women’s ski, the DPS Yvette 112 Tour. It’s been rad watching my wife, Amy, become a more confident skier on these boards. She crushed some big mountain lines on our BC cat trip this winter.

Favorite Follow:  Owen Leeper, @o_leeps on Instagram. He skis big lines, catches huge air off the Jackson tram, and gets amazing photos and vids. He’s super talented, but also super humble, which is refreshing and somewhat rare.

Next Adventure:  There’s been plenty of adventuring lately. Amy and I went on a British Columbia cat trip in early February (shout out to Keefer Lake!). Then I skied a ton of fresh snow at Silverton this week. Next up is our annual Powder7 staff trip to the deepest place in Colorado, Wolf Creek.

Weirdest Adventure:  Starting Powder7!

Powder7 Swag:  I’ve been testing our soon-to-be-released Powder7 ski poles. Beautiful artwork from Powder7’s own Sarah Beabout, with a long foam grip for uphill versatility, and a big basket to push through the pow. Watch out for them landing on the site soon.

Best Ski of all Time:  No question, the Head Cyclic 115 takes the cake here. I’m still on that ski, even though it’s from several years ago. Other than that, the Volkl Gotama and—throwing it way back—the Salomon 1080 Gun.

Favorite Stash:  But then it wouldn’t be a stash! Ask me in person and I’ll tell ya though 🙂
