Freshen Up Your Summer Gear

Check out the gear we’re using year-round.

As the days get longer and the sun gets hotter, most of us spend part of spring cleaning rotating the winter gear back and bringing the summer gear forward. Things like lightweight sunshirts, big hats, the works. But if you’re anything like us ski nerds, we tend to spoil ourselves on new skis or ski pants, rather than summer gear we use half the year. To kick off the summer season, we’re sharing some summer gear we’re treating ourselves to this year. Because, maybe, just maybe, if we have gear we love in the summer, time will pass faster to next winter.

Powder7 Sun Hoody

Any outdoor enthusiast will tell you that a sun shirt is essential gear. A lightweight, light-colored long-sleeve goes a long way in cooling you down by keeping your skin covered and protected from the sun. You don’t have to reapply sunscreen all day, and the fabric’s protection from the sun keeps you from overheating. Our new Powder7 Sun Hoody is graced with the Great Blue Heron herself. The light color fabric keeps the heat from being attracted to you, and the hoody protects your neck and ears.

Rumpl Beer Blanket

Rumpl beer blanket

Cold beer? Good. Cold hands? Bad. Stuff your drink in the ultimate compressible beverage blanket. Once you’re done crushing (responsibly), hang your Beer Blanket up using the attached snap. Comes with a tiny, attached stuff sack that can double as a pillow for your pet hamster.

Outdoor Tech Fuel + Lantern

On any given camping trip, I reliably forget a lantern or a power bank (among other things). So anything that’s two-in-one is a win in my book. The Outdoor Tech Fuel+ is a power bank with both standard USB ports and a USB-C port for all your gadgets. The bank itself lights up like a proper outdoor lantern. With a waterproof rating, long battery life, and a slim design that only weighs half a pound, this outdoor lantern is an easy addition to every camp bag (so you’ll never forget it).

Outdoor Research Trail Mix Snap Pullover Sweater

Summer in the high alpine can get chilly at night. A cozy grid fleece is a versatile piece of gear that goes well beyond a single season. You’ll find yourself reaching for this in the autumn for leaf peeping, in the spring for touring, and midwinter under your jacket. And in the summer? Throw it on at night around the campfire, or as an early morning layer on your way up a big peak. This OR pullover uses a grid fleece to add some breathability, meaning you can reach a Goldilocks temperature even when you are on the move in cold weather.

Powder7 Mountain Tee

There’s nothing I crank through in the summer more than comfortable t-shirts. Between t-shirts for outdoor activities that inevitably get holes in the seams and unavoidable sweat stains, and t-shirts that can’t have that wear for patio hangs and brewery outings, I’m always looking for another to keep things fresh. Behold, our freshest t-shirt design from the one and only Sarah Beabout in Crested Butte. It does all the things a t-shirt should do: it covers your shoulders, feels soft, and has a cool graphic. That’s a winner in my book.

Cotopaxi Bataan 3L Fanny Pack

cotopaxi 3l fanny

For outdoor concerts, afternoon boats, or quick hikes, I’ll take a fanny pack over a backpack any day. Why? In the heat of summer, the last thing I want is something suffocating my back. This Cotopaxi Bataan 3L Fanny Pack provides ample space for a water bottle (especially our collapsable Hydrapak), a light jacket, and snacks. In Cotopaxi fashion, using scrap material from other product, this fanny pack will come in a unique set of colors. Sustainable, and unique!

Sun Bum Sunscreen

The Sun Bum Face Stick is a regular in our ski jackets and cars during the winter, but now that we’ve shed our ski apparel in favor of tanks and jean shorts, it’s time to make sure we have sun coverage everywhere else. The Sun Bum Original SPF 50 is a moisturizing formula that smells like the beach. Free from Parabens and chemicals you can’t pronounce, and full coverage sun protection, we never leave home without it. Mineral sunscreen your thing? Sun Bum has that too.
