You heard it: a new Elan Ripstick is in town. Elan’s hallmark all-mountain ski delivered performance for a variety of skills and styles of skiing. With a shape and construction that prioritizes versatility, the Ripsticks can help you level up as a skier. So why the change? Elan took the bones of a ski we know and love and sought to make it even better. We discuss the updates to the Ripstick, along with other skis in their line in our Elan skis 2025 preview.
What’s New
Elan revamps its Ripstick series with all-new molds and construction on the inside. The same basic principle is there–you still have a left and right ski that’s asymmetric, with deeper rocker on the outside edge and less on the inside with more camber. The idea is you get more power on your inside edge for carving or edging on firm snow. But the rocker on the outside edge gives you that extra maneuverability in tight terrain. Best of both worlds. The profile itself hasn’t changed significantly from the previous version.
Here are the updates: a new tip shape with a less pronounced taper. The “carbon line” tech on the inside has changed, removing the carbon line down the middle. The new carbon lines are designed to be thicker and more stout on the inside edge (for power carving) and thinner on the outside edge.
We also get the trapezoidal sidewalls from Risptick Tour and Playmaker skis, which help save weight and increase power.
Elan also separates the once mega-popular 106 into a Ripstick 108 and Ripstick 102 for men. The Ripstick 96 and 88 stick around with the same updates. Women get a 106 and 100, with the Ripstick 94 and 88.
The stiffer, Ripstick Black Edition also gets the same updates with the stiffer construction.
Other Highlights
The Playmaker series expands and gets tweaked after a successful launch last season. A new, purple Playmaker 111 hits the scene this year. If you get along with playful freestyle-inspired models like the Atomic Bent 110 or Reckoner 112, the Playmaker 111 offers a springy and energetic soft snow ski that will slash and slide around to your heart’s content.
Elan got feedback from their athletes to stiffen up the tail across all the Playmakers, so all skis (including the existing 101 and 91) will get that change this year. It’s still a rockered and playful ski, just with slightly more beef back there to keep the tails tracking well.
The versatile carvers, the Wildcats and Wingmans return unchanged for next season.
