There’s already a lot of things you worry about while skiing. Things like “have I drank enough water today?” or, “am I going to be warm enough today?” or, “am I going to get caught with rum in my flask?” might be on the list for good reason. Certainly, something like “man, how much is this injury going to cost me,” shouldn’t be one of them. That’s why our friends at Blister down in Crested Butte developed their Blister+ Membership.
Blister+ Membership: Overview
Blister is well known for their gear guides and reviews for all sorts of equipment. As core skiers and outdoor enthusiasts themselves, they found a hole in the outdoor industry space. Trying to solve the problem of expensive injuries and bad medical insurance policies, Blister announced their Blister+ Membership. It’s injury accident insurance, designed to be in addition to your regular medical insurance coverage. In case an accident happens, the insurance will cover up to $25,000, no deductible required.
It covers a wide range of outdoor sports, from kayaking to downhill skiing and trail running to fishing. The $25,000 also includes emergency transportation, such as heli rides or lengthy backcountry evacuations.
Why We Love It
When we play in the mountains in the sports we love, we undeniably expose ourselves to risk. Some risk you can control, like the kind of slope you’re skiing on, the speed you’re riding at, or the terrain you put yourself in. But, even taking the safest route or plan can still go awry. Even folks who might not be pushing the limits of extreme sports can succumb to weird fall or step. That’s why protecting yourself is so worth it. These injuries and evacuations aren’t cheap, and your run-of-the-mill medical insurance likely won’t give you the best coverage.
Not to mention, it has all the things you love about a regular Blister membership. Personalized gear recommendations and consultations, access to their exclusive content, deals on ski gear from partner brands, discounted tickets to the Blister Summit, and their coffee table worthy Blister Winter Buyer’s Guide.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t share this awesome program with more folks. It’s an easy decision for anyone who’s firsthand had to fork over the endless cash as medical bills pile up after an injury. So, do yourself a favor, and take one more thing off your list to think about while playing in the mountains.
