Skiing the Deepest Snow in Colorado at Wolf Creek

One house, 15 employees, two owners, eight days, 30 inches of storm snow. It could be the tagline for a reality TV show or a stoke-happy ski flick. In this case, it summarizes the closest thing Powder7 offers to in-service training—the company trip to Colorado’s Wolf Creek Ski Area, home to the most annual snowfall in the state.

Alas, it’s a tough life.

In rotating shifts (i.e., leaving enough people in Golden to keep the shop running) with more than 30 pairs of skis in tow, the people of Powder7 explored, hopped cliffs and cornices, surfed first-tracks down steep and deep tree lines, bonded, and tested the gear we sell. Wolf Creek’s 1,600 skiable acres could barely contain the excitement.

Back in Golden, we’re refreshed and ready to finish the ski season strong. If you’re in the shop and you overhear us sharing stories or raving about our sun-soaked powder exploits, it’s because, well, we just can’t let it go. Maybe we’ll inspire you to plan your own ski-cation!

Some thoughts on the trip:

Chris, technician/customer service
“The trip was great. Everyone was exhausted from working so hard, and everybody needed that break. It was definitely the best snow I’ve ever been in. Amy and Jordan are always super generous, so I can’t thank those guys enough. I’m looking forward to it next year. And, as everybody else has noted, my favorite ski was the [Black Crows] Atris.”

Mia, customer service
“I was a little nervous at first because I’m probably the least experienced skier in the shop. But then I surprised myself, and I was also surprised with what a great community Powder7 was. They didn’t care what ability you were. Everybody just wanted to stick together and have fun.”

“Working for a company who values their employees makes you want to work harder as an employee. A trip like this keeps you focused; it’s a good work/life balance. Even went we weren’t skiing, we were talking about skis. Everyone genuinely wants to talk about skis—which is probably super annoying for everyone not from Powder7. Ski of the trip for me was the [Black Crows] Camox Birdie.

Keagan, technician/customer service
“I got there a couple days after it snowed and still got tons of fresh lines and face shots—like for three days. The house was sweet. The van was sweet. I haven’t sent that hard in a while. There were so many people there, and the wolfpack was so stoked. My favorite ski of the trip was the [Blizzard] Cochise.

I hang out with these people a lot. I watch them talk about jackets and pants and everything all the time. But then we go to Wolf Creek, and everyone’s a badass. They all just go for it. It’s way easier to work with people who are like that, who are so much fun and so laid back.”

Lauren, customer service
“Wolf Creek was great. My favorite part was skiing through the trees as a wolfpack and howling at each other the whole time. And I valued that there were so many different skiers, who were all really good, so every day we learned and did something new. My favorite ski of the trip was the [Black Crows] Atris Birdie.”
