We’ve had customers calling in or walking in talking about rumors of the new Volkl skis for next season. You guys love gear as much as we do. We wanted to get you information from the source. Volkl recently released product videos for both the new Mantra and the new V-Werks BMT skis. If you’re an avid skier, you’ve likely tried out the Volkl Mantra in the past 6 years. If you’ve demoed skis in the past year, you’ve possibly gotten on a set of the V-Werks RTMs or you’ve at least noticed them on the hill. They’re a carbon ski, they’re kind of hard to miss. Because these skis are so well known, big changes, in the case of the Mantra, or introductions, in the case of the V-Werks BMT, are on everyone’s radar.
The new Mantra is a fully rockered ski! It has a new tapered shape like the One and Two big mountain skis. Its very versatile and loves powder. The 2014-2015 Mantra is also slightly wider at 100mm underfoot instead of 98mm. At the demo days, we found it easier to ski than Mantras from the past. Don’t worry, the Kendo (88mm underfoot), stays the same for next year.
The new V-Werks BMT (Big Mountain Touring) is a super lightweight, wide, touring ski. With all the hype from the other V-Werks skis and alpine touring in general, no wonder Volkl brought us the BMT. It comes in 3 different widths: 94mm, 109mm, and 122mm. As Patrick Wesch says in the video, “the BMT combines serious freeriding with the specifications of a ski touring ski.” Its the best of both worlds without compromise in either arena. These skis still have a full tip to tail woodcore for harmonic flex. Next year we’ll still see the V-Werks Katana, V-Werks RTM, and the V-Werks Code Speedwall.
