Salomon Skis 2024: The First Look

If you talk to the marketing guy and gal here and ask what’s in their quivers, you’ll get a quick rundown of Salomon’s ski collection. A Blank, a QST 106, and a Lumen 98 nearly cover the entire QST family. And don’t forget Stance—Matt has one of those too. So it’s safe to say, we perk up a bit when Salomon says they have something new for the year. No difference this coming season, as Salomon drops a long awaited, lightened up version of the QST 106: the QST Echo 106 . But that’s not nearly the whole story. We break down the new and updated from Salomon skis in 2024.
What’s new
Skis
This year, Salomon treats our uphill friends to the new QST Echo 106. The Echo is a lightened up QST 106. It features the same mold and shape, and keeps many of the dampening features we love in the regular QST line. The cork damplifer in the tip and tail stick around, along with the double sidewall technology.
Salomon uses their MTN core in the Echo—a karuba/poplar blend—and uses basalt fibers throughout to keep things light and stable. Overall, we’re saving about 300 grams per ski. With the 181cm clicking in at 1760 grams, this is no ultra-light skimo set up. It does; however, offer folks who don’t mind carrying a little extra weight a playful touring ski that feels more confidence inspiring on the descent than you’d expect.
The Echo is Salomon’s first big move towards incorporating more sustainable materials. The Echo boasts a 50% recycled top sheet and 100% recycled ABS in the double sidewall. The base also has a small portion of recycled materials too. Moving in the right direction!
But, the Echo isn’t the whole story for Salomon skis in 2024. The Stance series gets a refresh too. Across the board, the Stances get an updated metal shape and introduce the woodcore used in the Stance W 94 to the whole lineup. Now, the men’s and women’s are unisex.
Instead of just two metal cutouts in the tip and tail, Salomon added two additional windows on either side of the main window. This gives the ski less torsional rigidity, without losing much power. Overall, these new skis feel less punishing in tough chop or in tight spaces, but still absolutely let you rip the groomer at Mach 10 back to the lift.
Boots
Salomon is another one of the boot manufactuers introducing Boa to their boot collection in 2024 with the S/Pro Supra. The boot comes in a variety of flexes, and starts with a 100mm last. Per usual with Salomon, this boot features their Custom Shell HD tech, so the shell is fully heat moldable and customized to your foot.
The boot also features their new custom tongue that can be adjusted to fit better over your instep. Salomon tweaked the liner too, with a latex/foam combination that holds its shape longer than traditional foam liners.
Other Highlights
Salomon is also dropping a new MTN binding this year, with an adjustable “DIN” U-Spring. There are two DIN range options, with the MTN Summit 12 and MTN Summit 9.
The Shift Pro boot series returns unchanged, with a new color for the men’s 130 and women’s 110.
The low volume S/Pro Alpha boots carryover, with a new color for the 120.
As for skis, the rest of the touring scene (MTN 96 and MTN 86) remains unchanged.
