Avalanche education is expensive. We want to help.

Backcountry skiing is often pitched as an alternative to an expensive ski pass. But, once you add up the avalanche gear, uphill capable gear, and avalanche education, you’re stacking up a solid bill. Not to mention, if you’re a gal, finding other experienced women to go backcountry skiing with isn’t always the easiest thing to find.

Enter VNTRbirds. A women-owned and led organization dedicated to getting women out in the backcountry. Not only do they host avalanche education and mountain medicine courses for women and non-binary folks throughout the winter, they also offer scholarships to help folks from different backgrounds further their backcountry education.

We wanted to be a part of this, so we partnered with VNTRbirds to create the Powder7 Skiing for All scholarship. The recipient receives an AIARE 2 level course, their Companion Rescue course (a prereq for Level 2), along with a $300 gear stipend to spend at Powder7 on whatever they might need. They’ll also get a set of Rocky Talkies, because who doesn’t love radio calls in the backcountry?

If you, or someone you know, might be interested in applying, you can do that here. Be sure to check out all the other incredible scholarships they have available, and their events calendar.
