DPS continues to bring cutting-edge ski design and world-class carbon to a knife fight with their 2017 skis. A new core construction category, the Foundation Series, built from carbon, bamboo, and glass, has taken the place of the old Hybrid line. Will it replace the Hybrid construction in my heart? My head says yes, but the DPS promotional materials also say yes. So, probably, yes.
And there’s a whole new ski to play with: the Wailer 106, with its women-specific counterpart, the Zelda 106. I tried three different Legend of Zelda jokes, here, but they were all reprehensible. You’re welcome.
The new 106 is looser and more playful than the hard-charging Wailer 105, with a redesigned tip shape that delivers a nice, crisp entrance to your turns. It’s also going to do my taxes this year. That’s a risk, sure, but I like its confidence.
I’ll have more to say about your old favorites (the Wailer 112, the Nina 99, the Yvette 112…they’re all here!) in a bit. First, we have to go ski these up at Copper Mountain this week. After all, the last thing you want to read is a bunch of weird stuff I made up instead of the cold, hard facts I’m famous for. What would be the point of that?
