Stop going inside for warm-up breaks.
Let’s be real: there’s a special kind of misery that comes with being cold on the mountain. You know the feeling. Your fingers go numb on the chairlift, your toes start protesting halfway through the day, and suddenly that $20 bowl of chili at the lodge sounds like the best idea you’ve ever had. We’ve all been there, shivering through runs that should be fun, cutting the day short because we just can’t take it anymore. Turns out, it doesn’t have to be that way. We polled our staff and took a look through our inventory to find the warmest ski clothing and apparel we carry. These are the jackets, pants, and bibs that’ll have you staying out longer, skiing harder, and maybe even enjoying that chairlift ride instead of dreading it.

Obermeyer Cosima Down

Based in Aspen, Obermeyer continues to be a pillar of ski fashion. The Cosima Down sums up Obermeyer’s specialty: blending technical features skiers love into stylish designs. Loaded up with 155 grams of Allied Feather Down and Thermore synthetic insulation, you’ll be prepared for even the coldest days. A 15k/15k waterproof/breathability rating gives you all the weather protection you need for most days on the hill, and keeps air moving even when you work up a sweat. Shades of gray not your color? We stock dozens of colors (both loud and subtle), including some options from last year for a bit of a discount.
Mammut Stoney HS Thermo Jacket

The Mammut Stoney HS Thermo takes a more modern take on the insulated jacket. The jacket hosts a freeride cut with a relaxed fit, longer length and longer sleeves. At the same time, it packs the punch of something that you would imagine should feel more puffy. There are 80 grams of synthetic insulation in the torso and 60 in the sleeves, giving you a more comfortable fit that’s easy to move around in. The shell offers 20k/20k waterproofing and breathability, on par with some high-end shells without insulation.
Haglofs Latnja GTX Insulated Ski Jacket

If freeride cuts are more your thing, you’ll be interested in this Haglofs Latnja ski jacket. It takes the freeride fit and features of the Vassi jacket (a favorite here at the shop) and adds a lightweight insulation. It’s perfect for the folks looking for a little extra layer of warmth, without going so far to overheat. The oversized hood goes over a helmet easily, giving you one extra layer of warmth that insulates your head and neck. We love the minimalist design, perfect for flying under the radar.
Norrona Lofoten Gore-Tex Insulated Jacket

If you’ve followed Powder7 for some time, you know we’re big Norrona fans here. This piece from the Norwegian brand is one of their staples and most popular products. The Lofoten Gore-Tex Insulated Jacket is a perfect complement to any skier who likes a clean look. It’s not as heavily insulated as some of the jackets on this list, but will be easier to move around in and offers more breathability and technical features. If you run cold, but don’t want to be held back on the hike to terrain, or just need a cold-weather ski jacket to add to the quiver, this is an excellent choice. We have loads of great colors in stock!
Puffy Jackets + Midlayers
Himali Accelerator Down Jacket

Based out of Boulder, Himali is a great brand with a focus on making technical mountain apparel. This Accelerator Down Jacket is perfect for layering underneath a ski shell when the weather is cold. This puffer is without a hood, which works seamlessly under a ski shell. You know when you have a few layers on and they all have hoods? And you feel like you have an unknown blob behind your head? You can solve that all with this puffy. The slim fit fits under a ski shell well, and the light weight makes it perfect to put in a backpack for a ski tour.
Ortovox Ravine Metawool 90

If this gear writer knows one thing about Ortovox, it’s that Ortovox knows wool. Their merino base layers and socks are some of our absolute favorites for their cozy feel and great moisture-wicking and heat trap perfromance. So when we brought in this puffy jacket, staffers have been clammoring for them. The great warmth-to-weight ratio makes this jacket feel like a feather on you, but simulates feeling like a blanket wrapped around you. The windproof outershell gives you an extra layer of protection under a shell jacket, or as a standalone piece on a ski tour or walking around town. Outdoor apparel is expensive, so it’s great to have pieces that can work as ski midlayers, hiking puffys, or out on camping trips.
Ski Pants
Norrona Lofoten Gore-Tex Insulated Ski Pant

A classic ski pant in the collection, the Norrona Lofoten Gore-Tex Insulated pants offer premium comfort and performance. The Gore-Tex fabric rides first class in the water-repellency world, keeping you drier for longer. Staying dry is the first step in staying warm on the hill, and your lower body is usually the first target in terms of getting wet on storm days. Between sitting on the lift and maybe navigating some powder on the slopes, wear pants that you’re confident will keep you dry. These pants run lighter insulation than the other pants below, hitting the perfect “just right” spot to keep you warm, without feeling like you’re going to overheat.
Obermeyer Malta Ski Pants

The Obermeyer Malta is a go-to recommendation for folks looking for a classic ski pant that’ll keep them warm on the hill. Obermeyer designs these pants to be flattering, without restricting movement. Specially designed articulation for skiing give you plenty of room for high steps and zippering through bumps and trees. Obermeyer uses their sustainable Repreve fabric in the Malta pant, made out of recycled water bottles, giving you a cozy pair of ski pants you can feel good about.
Flylow Foxy Insulated Bibs

The shop favorite ski bibs get one step better! Ladies at the shop have been loving this bib style for years, but the shell design left something to be desired by folks who run cold or on very cold days. Flylow heard the calls and answered with the Foxy Insulated Bibs. Still the same cut and fit of the regular Foxy, with just a thin comfortable layer of 40 grams of insulation. While that’s not as much as some other competitors, the bib gives you a little extra warmth over ski pants by covering your chest as well. The extra fabirc gives you an extra layer of insulation and warmth, as well as protecting you from snow on those powder days.

The Macai Jacket is one of the warmest and most sophisticated ski and snowboard jackets we have ever had the luck to ride with. Fully waterproof, and featuring a hybrid synthetic and down-insulated Gore-Tex construction, the Macai is durable, warm, and moisture-proof for frigid temperatures and icy chairlifts. Arc’teryx is known for high-quality and premium construction and materials, and this jacket doesn’t disappoint. Ideal for long days in the mountain, and feeling like you have armor on.

This proven design combines professional-grade waterproof and windproof protection with intelligent features including insulation from Primaloft Black Eco—delivering exceptional warmth through recycled materials without compromising performance. With an articulated fit that moves naturally, helmet-compatible hood, and ski pass pocket, this is the Alpha: a time-tested favorite built for both performance and responsibility.
Obermeyer A.M.F. Ski Jacket

The new A.M.F ski jacket marks an exciting new direction for Obermeyer, bringing authentic freeride style to our lineup for skiers who push boundaries. Built with a robust 20k/20k waterproof and breathability rating, this jacket delivers serious weather protection without sacrificing mobility when you’re charging through variable terrain. The insulated hood provides crucial warmth where you need it most, while features like the adjustable helmet-compatible design and thumbhole cuffs ensure you’re dialed in from first chair to last run.
Descente Swiss Insulated Jacket

Swiss precision meets winter performance. The Descente Swiss Insulated ski jacket is engineered like a high-performance machine – every detail is calculated for maximum warmth and minimum bulk. Technical enough for serious skiers, and comfortable enough for everyday wear. Descente’s 4-way stretch Dermizax fabric is incredibly comfortable to wear, making movement feel easy and natural rather than stuffy and clunky (as ski gear can so often feel). Instead of thinking insulated jacket, think of it as your own personal climate control system.
Puffy Jackets + Midlayers
Arc’teryx Cerium Jacket

It doesn’t get better than this. The Cerium packs a punch, but fits solidly in the “lightweight packable puffy” category. That means you get a high loft at a fraction of the weight. We love these kinds of puffy jackets for layering underneath a ski shell, packing in a backpack as an extra layer, or transitioning to walking around town with. We use them equally in the winter as we do camping and hiking in the warmer months. A packable puffy is something everyone who spends time in the mountains should have. And frankly, there’s no many better than the Cerium out there.
Cotopaxi Capa Insulated Jacket

Introducing the all-new Nano-Air Ultralight Freeride Jacket, an exceptional ski midlayer engineered specifically for temperature control during high-output activities like skiing and ski touring. This dynamic layer excels at balancing warmth with breathability when you’re working hard on the mountain. Strategically placed 20-g FullRange insulation in the body and arms delivers featherlight warmth exactly where needed, while stretch panels under the arms are crucial for venting excess heat and providing the freedom of movement that’s essential in any midlayer. The ultralight, highly stretchy recycled shell and articulated fit move seamlessly with your body whether you’re transitioning through touring strides or carving downhill. With added weather protection at the hood and shoulders, this piece keeps pace with your changing efforts from the skin track to the descent, and is made in a Fair Trade Certified factory.
Ski Pants
Helly Hansen Legendary Insulated Bibs

Building on the success of the Legendary Pant, the Legendary Insulated Bib takes warmth to the next level with extended coverage that provides crucial extra insulation around the chest and core—areas where heat retention matters most on cold days. This bib design delivers superior protection and warmth compared to traditional pants, keeping you comfortable during long lift rides and deep powder days. Strategic insulation placement continues at the seat and knees for added warmth where you need it most. Beyond insulation, the bib features a high-performance waterproof shell with PFC-free water repellent treatment to keep you dry in any conditions.
Check out the pant version here if bibs aren’t your thing.
Outdoor Research Snowcrew Pants

These aren’t just pants – they’re your mountain armor. Waterproof, breathable, and packed with smart features like reinforced cuffs and zippered vents. Whether you’re earning turns in the backcountry or lapping the resort, the Snowcrew keeps you dry, comfortable, and looking like you know exactly what you’re doing. We’re stocking this in special sizes with tall and short options, perfect for finding the ideal fit for you (which, is not always common with ski gear).
Obermeyer Force Suspender Ski Pant

Okay, another Obermeyer product on this list. But what can we say, the gear is just too good! We’ve been recommending the Force Pant for years, and what’s one next step better than a pant? Suspenders. This gives you a little more comfort and freedom to move over the bib, but secures your pants nice and right even when the skiing gets tough. The Force Suspender offers a solid 15k/15k waterproof and breathability rating, allowing it to keep you protected from the elements, but also flush out heat as you’re working up a sweat. Fit with details and features we expect from Obermeyer, this is a class act of a warm ski pant.
