Salomon Skis 2025: First Look
The X Factor
No, not the hit television show. We’re talking about the new Salomon QST X. Salomon expands their QST family to bring back a wide powder plank to the collection. With new boots and a few new graphics, Salomon is keeping things moving. We dive into the details in our 2025 Salomon skis preview.

What’s New
The major news from Salomon is one from each major collection: a new ski, two new boots, and a new binding.
Let’s talk about the ski. The all-new QST X is the widest QST to hit the streets since the Blank was released a few seasons ago. At 118mm underfoot, this is the widest ski in their lineup. The flex is buttery soft, with loads of taper and not a lot of side cut. The result is a long radius, drifty ski that is dreamy in powder. But don’t take it from me, Matt’s been skiing it in powder. Check out his take below. Did we mention the bases?

On the boot front, Salomon introduces an all-new Shift Alpha boot. Fit with BOA, with a twist. Salomon adds their instep belt from their other touring boots to have a better fit over the instep. It’s the same mold as their other S/Pro Alpha boots, just with touring features. That means you’re at a narrow 98mm last. You get 55 degrees range of motion and a new SkiWalk mechanism that locks you in solidly for a progressive flex.

On the bindings, big news with a newly designed Shift 2.0. Salomon set out to address some of the sticking points people had with the AFD and the brake system. The full rundown of updates from Salomon includes; a new, larger toe lever that “increases shock resistance” and gives you more leverage to pull walk mode into place, bigger toe wings for better dampening and suspension, a redesigned AFD that is more reliable, and increases power transfer, a taller climbing aid, and a completely redesigned brake lever that avoids brake disengagement and is easier to lock. Whew!
We need to get our hands on a tech manual and a pair here at the shop, but it looks like they’ve also lowered the stand height of the binding too.
