Liberty dials up a new line this year: The V-Series.

V for VMT

Liberty’s 2019 line looks great, and their new series of stiff charging skis are a big reason for it. The V76, V82, and V92 incorporate innovative new construction for the Colorado-based company—Vertical Metal Technology (VMT).

In all three skis, metal struts are laid vertically between bamboo and poplar in the bases to provide dampness and stability without adding a bunch of weight. Metal tips and tails offer increased durability, while spring steel plates underfoot aid power transmission and flex. Carbon throughout offers more stability and responsiveness.

The goal: premium frontside performance. Good on ya, Liberty.

First Take from OR On-Snow: Our staffers had a blast on the V-Series. From Matt M and Justin: “Lightweight for aggressive frontside skis, they hold a nice edge and ski with lots of energy and responsiveness. Fast on groomers, fun in bumps, and surprisingly versatile.”

Return of the Helix

Liberty’s best-selling Origin 96 now has a worthy companion at its popular upper-90s waist width. The Helix 98 brings back a fan-favorite ski with new construction.

With bamboo and poplar in the core and rocker in the tip and tail, the new Helix profiles as a maneuverable, ultra-versatile option that will be forgiving and playful. But there’s also relatively long camber underfoot here, meaning the Helix shouldn’t compromise edge grip.

Tinkering with the Origin

The time-tested Origin line also gets some updates. The 90 and the 96 feature less tip rise and a lower rocker line, which Liberty hopes will translate to more float and less bounce. These alterations are mirrored in the women’s Genesis 90 and 96.

The widest ski in the line is the Origin Pro at 122mm underfoot, with the old 116 slimming down to 112 and featuring carbon in the construction.
