Kastle TX93 Skis

Construction:Partial Sidewall
Rocker Type:Freeride Rocker Rocker
Ability Level:Ability Level 8
Bindings:Not included. We suggest a brake size of 93-103mm.
Climbing Skins: Not Included. We suggest: Pomoca Climb 2.0 in 140mm wide / 175-190cm long

Our Take:

The Kastle TX 93 returns with just a topsheet update for 2022-2023, meaning one of the most versatile touring skis on the market right now is ready to rip skin tracks once again. With a little extra girth, the TX93 packs a little more punch in powder and mixed snow than the narrower TX87. Meanwhile, it is quicker on the up and the down than the new TX103, meaning it translates better to technical ski mountaineering. Long camber gives you reliable edge grip in the sketchiest places, while a splash of tip rocker keeps you on top of soft and mixed snow rather than getting caught up in it. The gist: the TX93 is all about balance. And balance can make or break alpine ski adventures. We recommend the TX93 to uphill travelers looking to tick off some big lines when conditions are right and spend long days linking dreamy lines in moderate powder until then.

ATK Raider 12 Ski Bindings

This Gear Is A Staff Favorite:

Powder7 Staff Pick Alex
By: Alex
After trying several other tech and hybrid bindings, I've happily settled on the ATK Raider as my favorite. You can't beat the weight and ease of use. The brake locking system works independently of the heel tower, so you can leave the brakes locked up and out of sight until you need them. The heel tower is particularly easy to rotate, making transitioning while still clipped in a breeze. And the downhill? Despite being so minimal, the Raider stays quick and responsive. I've skied it with and without the Freeride Spacer, and I'd definitely recommend skiing with the spacer (it just gives you a better downhill ride).

Our Take:

Shrouded in mystery for years, and known by many aliases, the ATK Raider 12 binding is now here in its original form: ATK. ATK is the binding company everyone wishes they were, using full metal constructions, and making insanely light high-performing ski bindings. At Powder7 we went directly to the source for the R12, in order to get the best and the purest. The Raider 12 brings in a new era in ski binding technology. Weighing in at a scant 350 grams per binding, yet still featuring a fully adjustable twist and vertical release in the heel, the R12 redefines what a lightweight tech binding can be. Additionally, it comes with 5 different heel riser heights, so you'll adapt to any skin track you encounter. Blow away your now heavy tech binding setup, and your friends on the skin track with the Raider 12.

Don't forget to pair your Raider 12 with the Freeride Spacer for the maximum in performance and power-transfer

Pomoca Climb Pro S Glide Climbing Skins

Our Take:

Backcountry skiers ranging from pros like Cody Townsend and Owen Leeper to our dorky marketing guy trust Pomoca skins with their uphill exploits. The Climb Pro S-Glide is one of the best day-to-day skins in the industry for people who want to dust the skintrack to leave more time for pow turns. Light, efficient, and glidey, these skins do exactly that. But they will not fall apart on a multi-day trip, either. Why? In climbing skins, glue is the make-or-break ingredient...and the Climb Pro S-Glide features some of the most skier-friendly glue in the business. As in, you can actually peel your skins apart without giving yourself a hernia, but they stick all day. But if you need to know one thing about the Pro S-Glide, know this: It glides even better than Pomoca's full-mohair version while adding the superior grip of nylon. That makes it the winner.

  • - Material: 70% Mohair / 30% Nylon
  • - Weight: 1.350g/m^2 or 252g/skin (110mm x 170cm)
  • - Grip: 52g/cm^2
  • - Glide: 213 kcal/h
  • - Safer Skin Membrane
  • - Ever Dry 2.0 Treatment: PFOA Free

G3 Via Ski Poles

This Gear Is A Staff Favorite:

Powder7 Staff Pick Justin
By: Justin
I break an astonishing number of poles. I think it's because I'm so intense. I don't know--the jury's still out. The G3 Via poles have never let me down, though. The sturdy aluminum shaft and durable powder baskets just keep trucking. And I've tried everything: banging them against trees, driving over them, using them for load-bearing ski ballet moves. I don't see any bends or fractures, and the baskets are still fully attached. In terms of function, the grips are super comfortable in my hands, and the swing weight is perfect--which is one of those things you can't really describe until you feel it. They're also adjustable and affordable. Actually, those are probably the two most important points, so I probably should've started there. Oh well, you guys get it.

Our Take:

The lightweight and exceptionally durable VIA is packed with features designed for backcountry use and built to outlast the demanding abuse of mountain travel. An excellent all round ski and trekking pole.

  • - Ergonomic dual density plastic grip shaped for comfort & precision
  • - QuickFlick Utility Tab - Flick your binding risers or buckles with ease

  • - Side Hill Grip - Lightweight and simple lower grip position for side-hill ski touring
  • - Burly forged Aluminum lever with a simple and easy to use offset cam gives you a reliable and sturdy connection between pole sections
  • - All-mountain basket - Perfect size (85 mm) and shape to tackle any snow condition and especially suited for steep and technical terrain.
