From Maroon Snowmass Trailhead, singletrack delivers runners to Buckskin Pass, Trail Rider Pass, Frigid Air Pass, and West Maroon Pass\u2014which each reach higher than 12,000 feet above sea level. Note: you can run the loop counterclockwise or clockwise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leave the trailhead at sunrise (be sure to park before 8 a.m.), pack a water filter, bring extra snacks, and plan on stopping to smell the clean mountain air. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Distance<\/strong>: 27.1 miles<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ascent\/Descent<\/strong>: 7,734 feet<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Boulder Skyline Traverse<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nothing compares to the ethereal glow of Boulder\u2019s Flatirons. Quintessential to the Front Range, these giant rock fins and their surrounding ridgelines are a trail running Mecca: Why not link the most prominent summits in one go? In a stout adventure, trail runners sync up South Boulder Peak, Bear Peak, Green Mountain, Flagstaff Mountain, and Mt. Sanitas in a route known as the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trailrunproject.com\/trail\/7011192\/boulder-skyline-traverse\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boulder Skyline Traverse<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the traverse\u2019s minimal shade and scarce water sources, fall season is an ideal time for the Skyline. Note: If you run the route from south to north, you can top off your water container after about 13 miles, at the Eben G. Fine Park\u2019s drinking fountain. The counterclockwise approach allows you a gradual one-mile warm-up before climbing to the top of the Matthews\/Winters mesa. Fly down the descent, cross the highway, and settle in for an ascent to the rocky spine of Dakota Ridge. Park at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jeffco.us\/1292\/Matthews-Winter-Park\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matthews\/Winters Trailhead<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The trail does not offer shade, so plan to the rocky spine of carry water, year-round. Tip: Tight on time? Run the 5-mile <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trailrunproject.com\/trail\/7028968\/matthews-winters-lollipop\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matthews\/Winters Lollipop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> instead. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Distance<\/strong>: 7 miles<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ascent\/Descent<\/strong>: 1,293 feet <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Deer Creek Canyon<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An oasis in the city, this 1,634-acre park boasts 13.4 miles of trail. From Deer Creek Canyon Park Trailhead, head south on Plymouth Creek Trail\u2014which will skirt along the southern edge of Plymouth Mountain\u2014until you reach Homesteader Trail: a majestic section of singletrack over soft earth and beneath a forest canopy. When you reconnect with Plymouth Creek, veer west to connect with Red Mesa Loop, where you\u2019ll have a spectacular wide-open vista on the northwest end. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Return to the trailhead via Homesteader Trail, but rather than descending Plymouth Creek Trail, go north on Meadowlark Trail, which will guide you back to the trailhead. Note: Homesteader Trail and Meadowlark Trail are bike-free zones. Love this area\u2019s variable terrain? Check out the annual <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/fearthedeer.co\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fear the Dear 1\/2-marathon race<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, held each spring. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Distance<\/strong>: 10 miles<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ascent\/Descent<\/strong>: 2,044 feet<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Turquoise Lake Trail<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flatter mountain trails are hard to find\u2014especially with views of 14,000-foot peaks. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trailrunproject.com\/trail\/7003128\/turquoise-lake-trail\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This trail<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> threads the eastern edge of Turquoise Lake beneath the tall umbrella of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/psicc\/recreation\/recarea\/?recid=12536&amp;actid=62\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pike and San Isabel National Forests<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Run this out-and-back from south to north.
