Between sweltering summer temperatures and wildfire outbreaks across the country, winter lovers have been\u00a0in a hot sweat.\u00a0<\/strong> Here at Powder7, we’ve been wondering what’s new with our friends at Protect Our Winters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>I checked in with POW\u2019s communications manager Sam Killgore for the summer scoop–and it’s not the heat they’re worried about.\u00a0 It’s the ballots this fall.<\/p>\n

What has POW been focusing on through the summer months?<\/b><\/h4>\n

“Our biggest priority is we need people to engage in the elections… We want to make climate policy a top issue in voting. Even among liberal voters, climate change is number\u00a0seven after gun control and other social issues. \u00a0For Republicans, that issue drops into the 30s.”<\/span><\/p>\n

So how does POW plan to\u00a0make\u00a0climate policy\u00a0a top voter issue?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u201cPOW is a 501(c)(3) single issue non-profit.\u00a0 We can tell people to vote, but that\u2019s it.\u00a0 We are about to launch a 501(c)(4), which is also a non-profit, but we are allowed to get involved in elections. We are calling it the Protect Our Winters Action Fund, or POWAF.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

If POW already registers\u00a0voters, what\u00a0will\u00a0POWAF do differently?<\/b><\/h4>\n

\u201cThe tricky thing with POW is that we can tell people to vote, but not how to vote.\u00a0 POWAF presents a much more specific message. We can register people to vote and then tell them to download our voter guide.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
