Mother’s Day: on the surface, a Hallmark holiday.<\/strong> In reality:\u00a0the one day a year that moms are actually recognized for their eternal love and toil.<\/p>\n

Like most things, I didn’t understand the weight of the day until I became a mom, and I immediately felt guilty for the years (30-plus of them) of cobbled-together gifts for my own mom. The candles, the teapots, the flowers. No teapot in the world will ever make the grade as a great gift for a woman who has cleaned up every type of bodily fluid known to man and did so while probably humming a sweet melody or singing a funny improv about said fluid (I’ll be honest, the latter\u00a0are my speciality. Fun fact: my\u00a0eight-month-old recently spit up into<\/em> my belly button. How is that even possible?).<\/p>\n

Treat that\u00a0ski mama right this Mother’s Day!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

So what does make the grade as a gift? As a\u00a0ski mama,\u00a0I say treat me with gear.\u00a0Here’s\u00a0my top 5 list\u00a0(hint:\u00a0some of these items are conveniently available at Powder7! Imagine that…):<\/p>\n

5. Patagonia Nano Puff Bivy<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0My all-time favorite jacket from Patagonia. I wear this during every season of the year: it’s my insulator layer during ski season and my go-to for staying cozy around summer night campfires. It’s durable, easy to wash, and the kangaroo-style pocket can hold everything you need without adding too much bulk to your middle.<\/p>\n

4. Hestra Womens Heli Mitt<\/a><\/strong>. I’ve had my\u00a0Heli Mitts for\u00a0eight years, and they’re still keeping my hands cozy on the chilliest ski days. Windproof and waterproof with leather palms and ultra-handy handcuffs, these babies blend comfort, fit, and functionality.<\/p>\n

3. Smith Allure MIPS<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0You know how\u00a0those mostly cute kiddos sometimes\u00a0give you headaches? Well, her ski helmet should do the opposite. The Allure is lightweight, sleek, and offered in a nice array of colors.<\/p>\n

2. Black Pearl 88<\/a><\/strong>. The catch-all ski for the mama who doesn’t want to be held back anywhere on the mountain.<\/p>\n

1. Dude, you don’t need a list made by someone you don’t know.\u00a0<\/strong>Odds are, the mother(s) in your life has been dropping hints for months. Shop early\u2014maybe somewhere other than here\u00a0(it’s OK, we get it). Get your grubby little kids\u00a0to make a card (or better yet, a giant banner), and wake up early to give her that cup of much-needed coffee in bed. Bonus points awarded if you help her make it ’til noon without changing a diaper or dealing with any other bodily fluids.<\/p>\n

Mother’s Day FAQs<\/h3>\n

Are demo skis giftable?<\/strong>\u00a0They are, and they’re a great way to upgrade her ski setup (or get her her first one) without spending away the kids’ college fund. But be sure you know what condition the used demo skis are in. Heavily used skis may not be right for a high-maintenance person or someone expecting new stuff. This video<\/a> will help, and you can always call the shop for recommendations or info on a specific pair of skis.<\/p>\n

I don’t expect anything for Father’s Day, so do I really need to get her a Mother’s Day gift?<\/strong>\u00a0Remember when you sipped red wine while she grew a baby? Get her something.<\/p>\n
