I\u00a0started this season with an ambitious goal:<\/strong> to find a better resort outfit.\u00a0I like\u00a0gear\u00a0that\u00a0looks sporty\u00a0while I rip down a tight mogul line and\u00a0flattering\u00a0while I sip on a hot toddy at the end of the day. But beyond appearances, I need\u00a0pieces that are technical enough to protect me from storms and offer skier-specific features.<\/p>\n

After researching my options, I settled on the Obermeyer Bond II Pant<\/a>\u00a0and the Tuscany Jacket<\/a>.\u00a0 At my first opportunity,\u00a0I put both to the test\u00a0at Keystone Resort.<\/p>\n

Obermeyer Fit<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Obermeyer designers carefully shape their garments to move naturally with the skier and reduce bulk.\u00a0 I highly recommend using the Obermeyer size guide<\/a>\u00a0to find the best fit for you.\u00a0Returns<\/a>\u00a0are easy\u00a0with Powder7, so if you\u2019re between sizes, order both and\u00a0keep the size that feels best.<\/p>\n

At 5’5″ and 135 pounds, the size 6 Bond II Pant and size 6 Tuscany Jacket both fit me perfectly.<\/p>\n

Bond II Pant – Fit<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Bond II\u00a0pants have a tight, active fit, so expect them to feel more like yoga pants rather than\u00a0conventional\u00a0snow pants.\u00a0 They have a slimmer leg with a boot-fit hem, but the\u00a0softshell material is extremely stretchy, so\u00a0I\u00a0still\u00a0skied comfortably in the pant’s\u00a0form-fitting style.\u00a0 The high-rise waist should sit at or just below your natural waistline.\u00a0 The back elastic waist panel moved with me as I skied through the bumps and trees and gave me\u00a0the custom fit I was looking for.<\/p>\n

Tuscany Jacket – Fit<\/strong><\/h3>\n

While the\u00a0Tuscany jacket isn\u2019t as tight as a\u00a0yoga top, it does have a form-fitting look that is flattering even over your thickest sweaters.\u00a0 The regular fit jacket has eased shoulder and waist measurements, leaving ample room for\u00a0extra layers without making you size up.\u00a0 Plus, the adjustable hem\u00a0stretches comfortably over whatever layers the conditions demand.<\/p>\n

Bond II Pant – On Snow Performance<\/strong><\/h3>\n

My first day at Keystone, it was about 30-degrees Fahrenheit, so I wore the pants without a base layer\u2014my first\u00a0ever attempt at something so risky.\u00a0 The fleece was soft against my skin, but more importantly, I was\u00a0warm all day despite my tendency to run cold and shiver\u00a0even when I\u2019m indoors.<\/p>\n

The next day, the mercury levels dropped, and the snow fell faster.\u00a0 Temperatures dropped to 0-degrees Fahrenheit, so I threw my 2XU compression tights<\/a> on under the Bond II Pant and braced myself.\u00a0 Aside from a\u00a0blustery chairlift ride that left my thighs feeling icy, the 8k waterproof\/breathable technology\u00a0protected me from the flurries and kept me warm.<\/p>\n

Tuscany Jacket – On Snow Performance<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Last season, I wore two or three layers under my coat depending on the weather. On day one\u00a0in the Tuscany jacket, I only wore a wool quarter-zip.\u00a0 As the wind howled during my first chairlift ride, and I was nervous that I would miss my other layers.\u00a0 But as soon as I started skiing, my fears dissipated.\u00a0 Plus, it was relaxing to take off my jacket in the lodge without my usual tangle of baselayers.<\/p>\n

My favorite\u2014and most unexpected\u2014feature was the integrated Snap-Away powder skirt.\u00a0 Powder skirts have a fairly simple design: elastic that hugs tightly around your waist to block out snow.\u00a0 Obermeyer took this simple design and added the Snap-Away feature so the skirt can lay flat when you don’t need it.\u00a0 During apr\u00e8s, snap away the skirt for a tailored\u00a0look that eliminates\u00a0the bulge that powder skirts can create.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0few times when I was skiing hard in the trees and moguls,\u00a0I did wish I had vents to dump extra heat.\u00a0 Instead, I unzipped the jacket a bit to cool off.\u00a0 If you run hot while you ski, you might want to consider a\u00a0jacket with Control Zone Ventilation.\u00a0 Some options from Obermeyer are the Cosima Down Jacket<\/a> or the Vivid Jacket<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Bottom Line<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Bond II Pant is practical and has a flattering fit that is usually reserved for jeans and yoga pants.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking forward to\u00a0sporting them on snowshoeing expeditions, at\u00a0winter tailgates, and in other cold-weather fun.<\/p>\n

The Tuscany jacket has skier-specific features for all-day comfort and style. If your body runs cold, the insulation will keep you toasty.\u00a0 If you run hot, you may prefer a jacket with vents.<\/p>\n

For\u00a0the most advanced fit design with technical features that you can enjoy for seasons to come, I recommend the Obermeyer Bond II pant and Tuscany jacket to enjoy days full of snow, smiles and steaming cocoa.<\/p>\n
