I competed in the CopperMan Adventure Race 3K at Copper Mountain. It is pretty epic when you get the opportunity to do a snow obstacle course in 80s gear. Saturday morning I woke up, did some stretches, and headed over to Copper with my friend Laura.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"copperman... before the race by traveloutloud, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/traveloutloud\/7085369997\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7045\/7085369997_fea6ecfa4d.jpg\" alt=\"copperman... before the race\" width=\"323\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We prepared for months and months for this epic race*. Every day at 3am for 2 months\u00a0preceding\u00a0the race, we ran at least 5K in Denver**.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>*There was no training for this.<\/p>\n<p>**You are so gullible. I would never wake up at 3am to run.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"DSCN0094 by traveloutloud, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/traveloutloud\/6936426098\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7089\/6936426098_eaf436965d.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN0094\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The race began with a run up the mountain. It was a lot harder than it looks. Imagine running up a groomed slope with treaded out sneakers. Yup, that was what I was doing. There were a few people with what I can best describe as ice cleats but most were unprepared for the ascent. May I remind you that the base elevation of Copper Mountain is 9,712 ft.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"copperman slide by traveloutloud, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/traveloutloud\/7085403149\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5464\/7085403149_21ae4d9ec7.jpg\" alt=\"copperman slide\" width=\"484\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following the ascent, we had to slide down, essentially, terrain park jump landings. This photo gives you a good idea of what it <strong>looked<\/strong> like&#8211; unless you&#8217;ve\u00a0slid down a snow\u00a0hill in thin pants and no sled, you won&#8217;t know what it <strong>felt<\/strong>\u00a0like. Suffice it to say, it didn&#8217;t feel great.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"copperman sticks by traveloutloud, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/traveloutloud\/7085419547\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7204\/7085419547_28871b5700.jpg\" alt=\"copperman sticks\" width=\"500\" height=\"185\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After the slide, there were some sticks we had to run through. We were supposed to dodge the sticks. After that there were barrels to crawl through, a haystack wall to climb over, a beach ball filled net-room to walk through, a leap of faith, a maze, and finally the hot chocolate pool. Along the way, people were cheering for me &#8220;Go Frankie Go!&#8221; or they would start singing the wonderful 80s hit by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"epic! by traveloutloud, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/traveloutloud\/7082558029\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7068\/7082558029_b1dbc1a101.jpg\" alt=\"epic!\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Laura was such a champ for jumping in. I didn&#8217;t want to get all chocolate-y. Overall it was a great day.
