This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

    Powder7 Staff Pick Justin
    By: Justin
Humans are fickle beasts, you know? Strivers, for better or worse, never quite satisfied with the world around us. That's why early explorers sailed to the edge of the world. That's what put footprints on the moon. And that's what drove Volkl to reimagine the Mantra after a dozen years as a best-seller. Thinner, lighter, turnier, more cambered, and with a bigger sweet spot than the old Mantra, the new Mantra M5 is a versatile, all-mountain crusher. It became one of our very favorite do-everything Colorado skis here in the shop, and came with us for all but the deepest days this winter. And a lot of fellow strivers must've agreed with us: the Mantra M5 sold out in record time. Step into a pair, if you get a chance, and dream big.

    Our Take:

Last year Volkl disrupted the ski universe with the M5 Mantra. Unchanged with just a topsheet update, the M5 Mantra strikes again. This lean, mean all mountain machine is quite the jack of all trades. Containing the same titanal frame you quickly grew to love, this ski rips and zips through all kinds of terrain just like a full sheet of metal. Adding carbon tips allowed the M5 Mantra to drop some weight, but man did it retain its muscle. This beach bod is a recipe for a good time, and if you ask us, it just might be the best time you've ever had.

    Features:

    • - Titanal Frame
    • - Carbon Tips
    • - Moderate Taper
    • - Full Sidewall
    • - Multi Layer Woodcore

    Volkl Mantra M5 Reviews:

      Great All Mountain Boards!!!

I've been skiing on Austrian "Iron lungs" for years (skied professional and was sponsored by three different Austrian manufacturers at different times ...). I moved from Blizzard Bonifides to these ski's last season and I couldn't be happier. They have similar performance to the Bonifides but are several ounces lighter per ski (I'm in my mid-50s and while I'm still strong this makes my day on the mountain much nicer ....). The shovel is a little bit tighter and the tail a little softer then the Blizzards. For me the latter is the only negative ... and it's really miner. I tend to ski a tiny bit on my heels and like a stiffer tail ... but these aren't "soft" just less stiff then my other all mountain boards. Not an issue just a small point. Anyway, I'll ride these for at least another season before adding a new pair of all mountains to my quiver ...

Terrain: Groomers, bumps, all mountain, off-piste ... not as much back country as I'd like these days.

      review of Volkl Mantra M5

This is a well balanced ski which is good in crud, performs well in groomers and does OK in up to 7-8 inches of fresh powder. It is best in medium sized turns. At the end of the day, your feet will feel the ski; it is heavy.

    Height: 5' 11'' Age: 48

    Terrain: all mountain West
