Refined and redesigned for the winter of 2018, Scarpa's Maestrale RS is now a lighter, burlier, more freeride-ready touring boot (and it was pretty great to begin with). The secret ingredient in this revamped Maestrale RS is the Carbon Grilamid material that forms the lower third of the boot. It embeds long carbon fibers into Scarpa's proprietary Grilamid plastic to crank up the strength and stiffness while shedding ounces. The result: a best-in-class backcountry boot that can power big skis thanks to a 130 flex rating, yet comes in 160g lighter than its acclaimed predecessor. The range of motion in hike mode has also dramatically improved: from 37 degrees in the original Maestrale RS to an impressive 60 degrees. Under the hood, an Intuition liner still provides maximum comfort and minimum weight, while a durable Vibram sole keeps you upright on treacherous approaches. Uphill or down, the new Maestrale RS is an elite performer. This boot might be the best in the world at what it does, and it already has the magazine awards to prove it.
