Coming back to skiing after ACL surgery a year ago, I've had a tough time finding skis that allow me to ski with the same confidence that I did before - being a skier who used to love a little metal in my ski - but are still easy enough for me to control and whip around without my knee groaning by the end of the day. Then entered the Salomon QST Lumen 98. It's smooth and damp on choppy groomers without being sluggish, and quick as whip through the bumps and trees. The tips do chatter a smidge at speed, but it feels plenty of stable underfoot that I barely notice - and my PT said I should cool it on the speed anyways. When I'm trying out a new ski, I keep the QST 98 in the car so I know there's something I'm going to have a good time and feel confident on no matter what.

Featuring the exact same updates and technology as the QST 98 from last year, the QST Lumen 98 is more playful and has more of a freeride style than the former 99. Despite the more playful shape, new tech on the inside means the ride is even more smooth and damp than before. Loaded with tons of energy, the Lumen 98 is ideal for ladies looking for a playful ski that is still supportive for popping off side hits and dealing with variable snow. Extended rocker lines in the tip and tail make the ski more maneuverable and easier to pivot in long bump runs and tight trees. Double sidewall technology and Salomon’s C/FX blend (a magical concoction of carbon fiber and flax) helps provide dampening and shock absorption when ripping through choppy terrain. This new tech also gives the ski smoother transitions when shifting from edge to edge. Now that the Stance 94 is on the scene - the more directional, metal laminate charger for frontside shredding - the QST Lumen 98 is freed up to be as freeride-y as your heart desires, whether you are a budding intermediate or a seasoned expert.
