Read all of our Nordica Santa Ana 104 Free staff reviewsIf my skiing buddy gets a text from me out of the blue, there’s a solid 80% chance it’s “What if I bought a Santa Ana 104 Free?” I don’t personally own it, but I’ve spent 3 years taking it out from our shop fleet, wondering what life would be like if I did own it. Would I be one of the skiers you see from the lift and aspire to be. Would Nordica all of a sudden ask to sponsor me solely because I own a pair of their boots and 2 sets of their skis? Probably not. But after years of contemplation, I would finally be a Nordica Girl.

So why have I spent years thinking about this ski? So glad that you asked! It’s damp and stable but quite easy to maneuver all at the same time. The terrain specific metal combined with the playful rockered shape allows me to pivot and slash while busting through crud, and the 104 width keeps me floating in powder just enough. It’s confidence inspiring in most conditions and makes me feel like a better skier. The only downside for me is that I do like a flatter tail on firm snow to lock into turns more, but that’s the compromise you make with the maneuverability of a rockered tail. It's still a ski that can rip groomers at the end of a day while blasting All Time Low, and that's all I really need from it. All in all, it feels like a natural extension of my legs and is the ski I pull out when I see a little snow in the forecast, and I don’t know what the conditions will turn out to be. Now excuse me, I need to text my skiing buddy about my ski quiver!The Nordica Santa Ana Free 104 felt amazing skiing bowls this last March, I could totally jet through anything and make it out unscathed and stronger than before. It was super great at busting crud and chop and slightly old powder in several of the cirques and bowls I was exploring. For a ladies ski with metal in it, this did not feel overwhelming to try and maneuver, in fact it was surprisingly satisfying to swing my tips n tails around and link some perfect turns down the cruisers. It floated really nicely on the powder, but I would say it felt a little heavy and wouldn't be my POWDER ONLY ski. In the moguls at the end of the day, I was wishing I had hit the gym a few more times for some quad strengtheners, but overall was able to have a blast on this ski all day and show off my speed, passin all the fellas on the way down.
By: Quinn MI know that many of my fellow lady rippers have been raving about the Santa Ana series for years, and I'm sorry to say that I'm late to the party. The Santa Ana 104 Free won my heart last year at Arapahoe Basin when it proved that it can float on 6 inch day, navigate the mid-day chopped pow, and let me rip fast groomers for the last hour of the day (power-hour, if you will). While I don't typically pick "playful" skis, I found that this was the perfect mix of slash-y in the trees, yet damp when you're really cruisin'.

When women come into the shop looking for a strong ski that can perform in challenging terrain, the Nordica Santa Ana 104 Free is always one we reach for. Despite being a "women's specific ski", you wouldn't notice that while riding it. A sheet of Nordica's Terrain Specific Metal provides dampening and shock absorption when riding on more variable snow, whether it be chopped up pow at the end of the day, refrozen slush, or a surprise scrapy section. Since Nordica knows you'll probably be doing some skiing in soft snow, they remove metal in specific zones to give more playfulness and flex where you need it. A freeride shape and progressive mount point keeps the ski easy to pivot in tight terrain, or when you need to take a turn, like, now. A super versatile 104mm waist width gives plenty of platform for when the snow starts to fall and dealing with off trail conditions, without being a powder specific ski and feeling too sluggish edge to edge for daily skiing. All of this means the 104 Free is an ideal ski for shredders who like a ski that can support aggressive skiing, but still have a bit of a playful style and like to bounce around all over the mountain.
