Simply put, Line’s Vision 98 changes the game for freeride skis. The 98 and big brother 108 are absurdly light, snappy, and responsive on all terrains. You wouldn’t think a ski that’s as light as most tour models would feel so at home on the hardpack, but it does. Easily carving on groomers and powering through crud when there’s no fresh to be had. There was a small amount of chatter in the tips at high speeds, but significantly less than I assumed there would be for a ski that light. Hindsight is 20/20, but Line is clearly looking to the future with the Vision.

Line absolutely blew my socks off with this ski! When we first got it in the shop I noted the lightweight and thought of it as a "touring oriented" ski. One turn in and I realized I was dead wrong. This ski looses nothing on the front side of the mountain. The combination of weight, with the classic Line playful feeling, and a surprising amount of stability makes this a go to for my quiver! Throw a Shift on this bad boy and you have a bona fide one ski quiver. Or, put some Attacks on them and take them anywhere you can imagine. I am very high on this ski. Line, you did it again!

    Our Take:

For 2020, Line had a vision. The purveyor of fun, freestyle-oriented classics like the Sir Francis Bacon and the Mordecai decided to throw its hat into the lightweight freeride game. And they really went for it: the all-new Vision 98 weighs in as one of Line's lightest skis ever, even lighter than their old touring ski, the Tourist. Even in today's weight-crazed ski world, it weighs in as one of the lightest skis on the market. So paired with any alpine touring binding, it boasts legit backcountry ability. But aren't you worried that it might be a noodle? Well, the Vision skis the resort shockingly well, and multiple Powder7 testers had way more fun than they expected carving these skis down groomers. In moguls, they're almost too fun. In trees and soft snow, they float well and pivot on a dime. They're also smooth, thanks to THC Construction. No, they're not put together like Colorado brownies. The Vision 98 blends three laminates--carbon, aramid, and fiberglass--to give the skis dampness that balances the weight savings. Keep in mind, though, that these are lightweight skis. So they won't hold up in dense choppy snow or icy crud like a heavier metal ski will. If you share their vision, these skis are raring to go.

    • - Freeride Rocker
