We work with the best manufacturers in the winter sports industry, but occasionally defects do occur. If you think your product has a manufacturing defect please contact us. We'll work with the manufacturer to determine if their warranty covers the damage. Determining if the issue is a manufacturing defect is solely up to the manufacturer, not Powder7. Two years ago we told you that if James Bond owned a ski, the Ripstick 96 Black Edition would be the one he would ride. Well, after not offering a Black Edition of the Ripstick for the 2020-21 season, it thankfully returns for 2022, with new technology and upgrades as any great spy tool would have. A tactical freeride ski, the Black Edition takes Elan's Amphibio design even further with Amphibio Carbon Line Technology, which inlays Vapor Tip Inserts at the tip with a mesh carbon weave reinforcement along the inside edges of both skis to considerably improve edge hold, dampness, and energy over the previous Black Edition skis. Combine that with the all-new QuadRod technology, which inserts two additional carbon rods into the middle of the ski compared to the normal Ripstick to add smoothness, grip, and increased power. At 96mm underfoot, it's also the best in the lineup in terms of balancing carvability with soft snow prowess. James Bond doesn't make tradeoffs with his gadgets, and neither does Elan; while the ski has become stronger and more stable, it hasn't lost its typical balance of quickness and maneuverability. Get a Ripstick Black Edition and be like Bond... James Bond.
Q: The Black Edition Ripstick 96 has an all expert (all black diamond) ability level ranking on your site. Is this true or does this ski work well for an advanced intermediate type skier?
From Tom - March 2021
A: This is true. The Ripstick Black Edition is built with extra carbon rods which make the ski much stiffer from tip to tail (hence the expert rating). If a ski is too stiff for the rider, they'll be unable to drive the ski or maintain proper skiing posture. However, the regular Elan Ripstick retains all the features (except for the extra rod construction) that make this ski so unique and a favorite here at our shop! I would highly recommend this version for anyone from intermediates through experts. I think the Ripstick 96 model would build confidence rather than make you work harder for the same level of performance.
Q: It seems that the Elan Ripstick 96 Black Edition may be the ski of the year. Has anyone been on it in your shop and how does it compare to the Kore 99? Thanks From Bo - July 2021
A: We certainly are big fans of the Elan Ripsticks here, as you may be aware of. Compared to the Kore, they're generally fairly similar with regards to width and weight. I'd say the Ripsticks have more tip rocker, and thanks to the asymmetrical construction are more nimble and quicker edge to edge. We've found for the 2022 Black Editions they're a little stiffer than the non-black edition skis so if you're driving the ski hard you'll get a bit more rebound. The Kore is probably going to have slightly softer tails, and has a less tapered shovel so will track better at high speeds in variable conditions. Hope that helps!
Q: How would you compare this ski to the Mantra M6? Thanks From Bo - August 2021
A: The Elan Ripstick 96 Black Edition is going to be much more playful than the Mantra M6. It has more play and rebound throughout the turn but can still charge. The Mantra M6 is great on groomers and cuts through variable snow very well, but it is a CHARGER.
