This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

    Powder7 Staff Pick Jordan
    By: Jordan
This has been one of my go-to skis this winter. It's shockingly light, perhaps the lightest ski around it's width. Best of all is that it performs like a downhill ski. It uses carbon and not a lightweight wood. This seems to give it the feel of a downhill ski despite having the weight of a touring ski. I like the downhill performance of this ski so much that I often use this ski at the resort for full on downhill days. It's so light that it's really quick to turn, especially in the trees or on big time steeps where you really want to swing it around quickly.
At 160 pounds, I actually prefer the Tour construction of this ski to the other DPS constructions. The flex of the Tour series feels like a great match for me. The same goes for the wider Tour skis as the Lotus 124 Tour was my go to choice to bring on my heli trip in BC this year.

    Our Take + Features:

The DPS Wailer family offers what may be the best big mountain skis in the world. Where the skinny-ish Wailer 99 outperforms the rest of the family in bumps and trees, and the Wailer 112 shines the brightest in untracked snow and open bowls, the Wailer 106 is perhaps the best daily driver of the bunch. For Western mountains, the 106mm-wide footprint is just about ideal: fat enough to float in the deep, and quick enough edge-to-edge to slay groomers. The patented PaddleTech tapered sidecut maxes out the versatility for true all-mountain shredders. It progresses through turns with quickness and precision, and carves with the best of them. If forced to choose one ski to ride for the rest of your days, regardless of terrain or conditions, you'll have a hard time finding a better option than the Wailer 106.

The Tour1 construction is DPS's lightest build, precision engineered for world-beating backcountry performance. A blasa wood core is reinforced with the same aerospace carbon fiber found in their flagship Pure3 skis to shave as much weight as possible for long, fast ascents without compromising stability and grip on the downhill. Using premium materials and designed for maximum versatility, the Tour1 construction delivers a best-in-class ride for backcountry rippers--or resort skiers who favor an ultralight plank.

    Ski Features:
Core: Balsa wood with prepreg carbon fiber
    Construction: Tour1 carbon/glass laminate
    Full cap textured polyamide topsheet
    Narrow profile Rockwell 48 edges
Fastest and hardest World Cup race bases
    PaddleTech Geometry
Weight: 2880g per pair (178cm length)
