With the massive popularity of the Black Pearl 88, I was stoked to get some laps in on the Blizzard Black Pearl 97. While the wider sibiling has a distinctly different feel, she's still as much of a rockstar. The Black Pearl 97 is more demanding and requires a little more input from her pilot, but as a result the 97 has a impressive, smooth ride that dampens everything you come across. Skiing dust on crust felt like morning freshies as the BP soaked up all the bad vibrations. Compared to a lot of other skis in this waist width, the Black Pearl 97 feels really stable, lends itself to bigger turns at speed, and is great at charging through variable snow. If you like always finding your edge with speed and need something to support aggressive skiing, you've found your match made in ski heaven.

TrueBlend technology - which reimagines the classic woodcore by utilizing individual wood stringers to individualize the flex pattern of each size ski, as well as dialing in the flex pattern throughout the ski - returns after another year of great reviews. Blizzard runs hardwood (beech) throughout the midsection of the ski where you need power and stability, and mixes in softer poplar wood stringers in the extremities to create a more balanced flex profile. What does this mean for you? Easier turn initiation and engagement, without sacrificing carving performance. As the directional complement to the Blizzard freeride Sheeva series, TrueBlend tech means that the Black Pearl 97 can now satisfy a wider range of skiers, from intermediates to aggressive experts. A thinner waist and an extended mounting plate round out the technology, making the Black Pearl smooth and damp through a variety of turn shapes, conditions, and speeds. The most powder-savvy option in the Black Pearl series, the Black Pearl 97 is ideal for any lady ripper who prefers a directional style in an easy-skiing, high-performing package.
