This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

    Powder7 Staff Pick Zack
    By: Zack
Powder 7 has carried Black Crows Skis for 2 seasons now, and each year we find hidden gems within the line, like the Orb Freebird. I picked one of these up for myself in December and mounted it up with Dynafit ST 2.0 and I am blown away at the performance and versatility. At 91mm underfoot, we are talking about a harder snow or spring season type of touring ski. If you are used to older, more traditional planks, you may be thrilled with the flotation of this ski, but be aware- that is not the goal of this model.
When paired with the new 2.0 Dynafit bindings, I feel supremely confident ripping this ski in any condition at any area. They are stiff, yet not overly stiff (no metal), so you can rip high speed groomers or bang in tight trees. My typical use for this ski so far has been to get a few chair laps in at A-Basin hitting groomers, trees, and bumps and then at 4pm when the resort closes- time to skin up. The skis on the uphill are just as good as on the way down, they are light and track very well. I got the orb as a package with the Pellis skins and I have had no issues with them so far.

    Our Take + Features:

The Orb Freebird is a whole different animal for 2017. This Black Crows classic has been profoundly modernized from a new mold, acquiring a new single beak and a half shape (front rocker with a light early rise tail) and a lightweight freebird core, giving it an infallible, occasionally brutal, alpine spirit. This new breed of Orb is more aggressive than anything we've seen before, with superior edge hold on piste and variable snow conditions.

    Ski Features:
    - Classic Camber and Front Rocker
    - Triaxial and Biaxial Fiberglass and Carbon
    - Paulownia Wood Core
    - Semi Cap Construction
    - Light Edges

    Black Crows Orb Freebird Reviews:

      Spring ski for big lines

I got this ski last year as my spring touring ski for big days and big lines. I am happy to report that it does both extremely well. I paired these skis with the black diamond heilo 200 bindings which makes for a super lightweight set up. These skis come out when I am going after a steep spring line; but, they also have enough float and are playful enough for when the snow gets soft. Finding a ski that can accomplish both of those conditions is not an easy task and I have been very happy to have found one that tackles it all.
