This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:
I had always heard that Black Crows skis were so versatile because they were designed in Chamonix, where there's so much vertical that it might be snowing hard at the top of a run, but raining by the time you get to the bottom. Since the conditions change so much in one run, the skis must handle powder just as well as the ice. I didn't get a chance to ski them in Chamonix, but I did experience the versatility first hand when I used the Navis at St. Anton in Austria. I was blown away with how well the ski adjusted to the changing conditions. At the top of the mountain it was stormy, and the skis easily pushed above the soft snow to make playful turns. By the time I got midway down, the snow began to get choppy and crusty--but the Navis was still stiff enough to push through the choppy snow for a stable ride. At the bottom of the mountain, the snow turned to a mix of ice and slush. Since the ski has a mostly flat tail, there was plenty of edge for me to dig into the snow to make carving turns that felt damp and controlled.

Take out the Navis on the best days (or the worst), and have your best day on the slopes! The Navis has a Single Beak and a Half rocker profile which is progressive rocker in the tip, camber underfoot, and a small rocker in the tail. The tip rocker covers 33% of the ski for remarkable pivot-ability and maintains great stability on the hard or wind-blown terrain. The tail of the Navis was treated with particular care to include a square design to increase surface area in soft snow, as well as a very progressive rise which softens the side-slip and reinforces its stability. The tip, inspired by the Sevun, is curved and benefits from a progressive rocker which gives a better ratio between stability, pivot and engagement. The flex is loyal to the Navis name: a knowledgeable mix of softness and firmness for an accessible and successful ski. Aimed at a range of skiers, this Navis performs in all conditions. For those who are looking for a freeride ski flirting with 103mm underfoot with a front rocker and an early rise tail have found their tool. The Navis is a pure freeride toy which adapts perfectly to crud or to pivoting in the trees.
